Last Friday, I arrived in Melbourne for jail visits and spent the day inside the Melbourne Remand Centre, a men’s maximum-security jail in the heart of the city.
When I’m in there, it’s not the usual contact visit — these are professional one-on-one sessions, sitting across from men who’ve been through some of the hardest systems imaginable. It’s heavy work, but it’s powerful — bringing justice, healing, and support to people who’ve been silenced for too long.
Many of the men I sit with are survivors of institutional child S.A., including those from boys’ homes, girls’ homes, foster care, DOCS, youth detention centres, schools, and church-run institutions.
We’re also supporting people in custody through the NDIS, helping them reconnect with services and rebuild their lives on release.
Some survivors may also be able to claim TPD or Income Protection benefits through their super accounts if they were forced to stop working due to illness linked to S.A.
💜 I’ll be in Victoria from 9–23 October, visiting prisons, speaking at rehabs, and connecting with the community.
Our next About Time for Connection community event is this Thursday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. — bringing together lived-experience voices, families, and service providers for a day of healing, hope, and change.
If you or a family member are in jail, or you need help finding the right pathway out — reach out.
We’re here to help you find your way, seek justice, and start healing.
