Early detection saves lives, and now eligible Australians can access free screening through the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.

If you're aged 50 to 70, have a history of smoking (even if you quit in the last 10 years), and don’t have symptoms, you might qualify for a low-dose CT scan - a quick, painless test that can detect lung cancer early, when it's most treatable.

🩺 Talk to your doctor or healthcare provider to check your eligibility and get referred for screening.

💬 Not sure about your smoking history or pack-years? Your healthcare provider can help calculate it.

This lung cancer awareness month let’s take action and protect our lung health.

Because early detection can mean more time, more treatment options, and more hope.

Diabetes is complex and often misunderstood. The stigma around it can make people feel judged and can impact self-care, physical health, emotional wellbeing and quality of life.

No one should feel judged for managing their health.

Listening, learning and showing compassion can help break the stigma that so many experience every day. 🤗

Diabetes is a health condition that affects how the body turns food into energy. It happens when the body can't make enough insulin or can't use it properly.

There are a few different types, each has different causes, and all require more understanding. ❤️

✨ Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. The body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the body that produce insulin. It's not caused by lifestyle choices.
✨ Type 2 diabetes develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't make enough. It can be influenced by genetics, age, family history and lifestyle factors.
✨ Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy when hormone changes make it harder for the body to use insulin. It usually goes away after birth but increases the risk of developing type 2 later in life.

[insert cheesy pun here] 🧀

Mould is the fuzzy or dusty green, white, black or grey stuff you sometimes see growing on food. It's a type of fungus related to mushrooms and yeast.

Some moulds release harmful substances (mycotoxins) that can make you sick. Mycotoxins can’t always be seen or smelled, and cooking or freezing doesn’t destroy them.

Eating mouldy food may cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. The risk depends on how much you’ve eaten, how long you’ve been eating it and your general health. 🤮

Mycotoxins from mould spread quickly through soft, moist or porous foods, including bread, soft cheese (like brie), sauces, cooked food and soft fruits or vegetables (like strawberries). If they get mouldy, it's time to chuck 'em. 🍞

With hard or dense foods such as cheddar cheese, carrots and salami, mould stays on the surface and mycotoxins can't spread into the food as easily. If there's only a few little bits of mould, you can cut it off and still eat these foods safely. If mould is covering most of it, it's best to bin it. 🥕

To prevent mould growing on your food:
🧽 keep your fridge and pantry clean
🛍️ buy smaller amounts of food and use it quickly
🌡️ store food at the right temperature
🫙 keep food covered in clean, sealed containers
❄️ freeze food for longer storage.

Always throw away food that’s both mouldy and past its use-by or best-before date. By this stage, your food is probably going off and there's no saving it.

If you've eaten mouldy food and have symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain or fever, see your healthcare provider.

⚠️ Measles alert for Brisbane, Gold Coast and Wide Bay. ⚠️

There have been three cases of measles in people who attended the Jelly Roll concert at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Friday, 24 October 2025.

These individuals also spent time in a number of locations in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Wide Bay areas while unknowingly contagious. If you attended the Jelly Roll concert on Friday, 24 October, please be alert for any measles symptoms.

There have also been two other measles case confirmed in Central Queensland and the West Moreton regions this week, unrelated to this concert.

The list of exposure sites and times is being regularly updated. For a full list of exposure locations, visit: https://www.health.qld.gov.au/newsroom/alerts

Members of the public who were in these areas, on these dates, need to be alert for symptoms of measles for up to three weeks from the exposure date.

The initial symptoms can include fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore red eyes. This is followed a few days later by a blotchy, red rash which often starts on the face and then becomes widespread over the body.

If you have any of the measles symptoms, contact your GP or ED. It is very important to call the medical practice or ED first if you think you might have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid spreading it to others.

For more information about the measles virus call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84).

Opioid overdoses can happen suddenly. Knowing what to do in the moment could save a life. 🚨

Opioids are strong pain-killers prescribed by qualified healthcare providers.

Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose or bad reaction.

It comes as either a nasal spray or an injection. While paramedics often use it on patients, anyone can give it in an emergency if they have it handy.

It's important to remember that Naloxone only works for 30 to 90 minutes, so always call Triple Zero (000) and ask for an ambulance. The overdose symptoms can come back once the effects wear off and it could be life-threatening.

Signs of an opioid overdose may include:
👉 loss of consciousness
👉 very small (pinpoint) pupils
👉 slow, shallow, or snoring-like breathing
👉 pale or cold skin
👉 blue or grey lips and fingertips.

Queensland’s Take Home Naloxone (THN) program offers free, easy access to naloxone. No prescription is needed and it's available in limited amounts for anyone using opioids, their friends, families, and carers.

Naloxone is available at participating pharmacies, GP clinics, alcohol and other drug treatment services, community health services and hospital and health services.
