Three Beauy boys pictured in UQ Rural Clinical School's small article for the upcoming conference just over the mountain at the Gold Coast.
There's a long teaching tradition at the Medical Centre (and the local hospital) for students from Queensland's universities, especially UQ because we know that positive training experiences are a predictor for young doctors continuing into careers in rural communities.
Dr Michael Rice is a man of many hats; GP, Rural Generalist, Director and owner of the Beaudesert Medical Centre just to name a few, but for the University of Queensland’s Medical School, he has been a much-loved placement provider for students undertaking their six week rural and remote studies since 2001.
Once a city boy, now a Beaudesert local, Dr Rice’s early exposure to rural medicine certainly contributed to his life long dedicated medical career in the bush. While Dr Rice continues his work in Beaudesert, his son Alex is finishing his final year of medical school with the Rural Clinical School in Toowoomba and will head to Boonah to complete his Rural and Remote placement.
With the creation of UQ’s medical pathways in Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Darling Downs and South West Queensland regions, people like Alex will have the opportunity to complete their medical education close to home.
