VollieCare

VollieCare Volunteers Supporting the Southern Health Community At VollieCare (formerly known as Volunteer Service for the Flinders Medical Centre Inc.)

we are dedicated to providing patients, visitors and staff in the Southern Health Community with a professional service. We are a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation whose volunteers carry out many valuable services across Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Hospital, and the Repat Health Precinct. The service also supports Spiritual Care, Arts In Health, the Repat Museum, Veterans Wellbeing Centre and the Jamie Larcombe Centre. The proceeds raised, help to improve facilities, patient care, as well as support medical research and our Consumer Care Projects which we do through financial donations. Without Volunteer Support, we would not be able to do what we do. Through volunteering, we can offer pathways to employment and add value to your resume. You will learn and develop skills such as time management, teamwork, communication, and leadership, but most importantly, you will have fun. It is acknowledged that the strong partnership between staff and volunteers adds warmth to the hospital culture and provides an extra dimension in patient care. When you volunteer, you are making a commitment to share that most precious of resources – your time – to make life better for those in need. Volunteers work in patient services and in retail areas. Wherever they work, our volunteers are getting involved, be active and having a voice in their community.

🌸 Meet our wonderful Mother & Daughter duo, Dorothy and Tracey! 🌸

Dorothy (left) has been a dedicated VollieCare volunteer for 13 years. After a hospital stay with pneumonia, she was inspired by the kindness of the volunteers she met and thought, “That’s something I’d like to do to fill my time.”

Her daughter Tracey (right) joined VollieCare a year ago after Dorothy encouraged her. Wanting the continuity of work life without the pressure, Tracey chose to give back by becoming a Guide. She says she was surprised by the many ways to volunteer and that the appreciation from visitors and patients makes it all worthwhile.

For Dorothy, volunteering has been a great way to stay social and make lifelong friends. In fact, she still catches up every three months with 15 of the friends she’s made along the way. 💙🧡

Thank you, Dorothy and Tracey, for the joy and care you bring to our community!

✨ A big thank you from VollieCare! ✨

We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the wonderful response from our community and staff wanting to knit and crochet blankets for our Nurture Boxes 💜 Every blanket will bring comfort to patients and families when they need it most.

A special shout-out to Reynella Neighbourhood Centre Inc, who recently donated over 40 beautiful blankets! 🧶 They have been one of our regular supporters for more than a year, and we are so grateful for their ongoing kindness and generosity.

We can’t wait to see all the other creations come in – thank you for helping us wrap our community in care.

🐾💙 International Dog Day Appreciation 💙🐾

Yesterday was International Dog Day, and we couldn’t let it pass without giving a big shout-out to our incredible Pet Therapy Volunteers and their beautiful dogs! 🐶✨

Each week, these special four-legged friends (and their humans!) bring joy, comfort, and smiles to patients, visitors, and staff across Flinders, Noarlunga, and the Repat. The calming presence of our therapy dogs helps reduce stress, brighten hospital stays, and remind us of the simple, unconditional love that only a dog can give.

To our volunteers and their amazing pups – thank you for the warmth, connection, and happiness you bring into our hospitals. You truly make a difference, one wagging tail at a time. 🐕💛
