A little message about Diwali ...perhaps you have heard it advertised on SBS and wondered what it is all about . This is from a dear friend Chetana Meehan who I was travelling to Nepal with later this month but now will have to wait until next year. Chetana Meehan offers wonderful retreats through her Yoga for the Soul business . So check them out !

As the world feels uncertain and heavy at times, Diwali reminds us of a simple truth: the light we seek outside must first be kindled within.

When we tend to our inner flame — through presence, compassion, stillness, and clarity — the way we see and experience the world begins to change. Our outer reality is a projection of the state of our inner world.

This Diwali, may we each choose to clear the shadows of doubt, fear, and separation. May we honour the radiance of peace and love that lives in us all.

The greatest offering we can give is to become a light for ourselves and others. 🌟

Wishing you a Diwali filled with stillness, strength, and a spark that continues to shine long after the lamps are extinguished.

With warmth,
Chetana x

Jane describes perfectly the practice of presence !

“Lost in awe at the beauty around me, I must have slipped into a state of heightened awareness. It is hard – impossible really – to put into words the moment of truth that suddenly came upon me then. Even the mystics are unable to describe their brief flashes of spiritual ecstasy. It seemed to me, as I struggled afterward to recall the experience, the self was utterly absent: I and the chimpanzees, the earth and trees and air, seemed to merge, to become one with the spirit power of life itself. The air was filled with a feathered symphony, the evensong of birds. I heard new frequencies in their music and also in singing insects’ voices – notes so high and sweet I was amazed. Never had I been so intensely aware of the shape, the color of the individual leaves, the varied patterns of the veins that made each one unique. Scents were clear as well, easily identifiable: fermenting, overripe fruit; waterlogged earth; cold, wet bark; the damp odor of chimpanzee hair, and yes, my own too. And the aromatic scent of young, crushed leaves was almost overpowering.

That afternoon, it had been as though an unseen hand had drawn back a curtain and, for the briefest moment, I had seen through such a window. In a flash of “outsight” I had known timelessness and quiet ecstasy, sensed a truth of which mainstream science is merely a small fraction. And I knew that the revelation would be with me for the rest of my life, imperfectly remembered yet always within. A source of strength on which I could draw when life seemed harsh or cruel or desperate.”

A beautiful piece written about Guru Poornima by a wonderful teacher ...sharing it here. Valerie Crosse and I were hoping to have a Havan or fire ceremony to celebrate but the weather today is too wet. Perhaps Saturday the 12th will be a bit drier. If you are interested to experience a havan and find out more about Guru Poornima then please let me know in the comments . Om Shanti

Guru Pūrṇimā 🌕

A Day of Deep Gratitude

Guru Purnima is a sacred pause—a moment to honour the teachers who’ve helped light our way.

Not only the formal ones, but the silent guides, the passing strangers, the difficult moments, the dear friends, the students who mirror our own lessons…

Every interaction has the potential to awaken us.

Traditionally, this day honours the lineage of wisdom passed down through time. But just as importantly, it reminds us to bow to the wisdom within—and to the countless ways life itself teaches us.

Today, I offer my heartfelt gratitude to all my teachers—seen and unseen, known and unknown, traditional and unexpected. You’ve shaped me more than you’ll ever know.

May we all keep listening. Keep learning. Keep softening into the light that lives within.

Warmly,
Chetana 🙏🏻
