Support Worker Needed in Mandurah– Flexible & Reliable

On behalf of Participant, we are seeking a committed and dependable Support Worker to assist in the home and community.

Participant is Male in late 60s with a Physical Disability. You would be joining an established team of Support Workers.

About the Role:

-Assisting with daily living tasks including Personal Care and Hoisting

-Community Access so must be able to drive

-Hydrotherapy Support so must be willing to be in the pool with Participant

-Ability to work Weekdays and Overnight Weekends (minimum 10hrs per week)

-Relevant checks (NDIS Worker Screening, First Aid, etc.) Certificate in Disability preferred

-No Providers, Independent Support Workers only

This Support would suit someone whose lifestyle allows for availability and flexibility, who can commit long-term and is not impacted by unexpected personal obligations.

Hi All,

The NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee has been set up by the Australian Government to provide advice about NDIS supports.

They'll review evidence about NDIS supports to make sure they're safe, suitable and cost-effective for participants.

The committee wants feedback from the disability community, which they'll use to inform their advice to government.

The committee is reviewing 6 supports:
• active passive trainers
• assistance animals for Autistic people or people with intellectual disability
• psychiatric assistance dogs
• seizure alert dogs
• exercise physiology
• smart home appliances for cooking, cleaning or gardening.
If you use these supports, research them, or use other supports for similar goals, the committee wants to hear from you.

The NDIA have released updates on how we describe short term accommodation. It’s now called short term respite.

This new name better reflects the purpose of the support. Which is, to give participants time apart from their usual care arrangements, while their primary informal supports take a short break. This support helps primary informal supports to continue in their caring role.

Here is some very important information that we all need to know.

New NDIS Funding Periods Starting 19 May 2025: Key Facts

What’s Changing?

- From 19 May 2025, all new and reassessed NDIS plans will include funding periods. This means your total plan budget will be split into smaller portions, released at set intervals, rather than giving you access to the entire amount upfront.
- For most participants, funding will be released in 3-month periods. For Home and Living supports, it may be released monthly.
- Existing plans are not affected until you have a plan reassessment or review. If your plan is simply extended (rolled over), these changes won’t apply until your next review.

How Do Funding Periods Work?
- You can only spend the funds allocated for the current funding period. For example, if you have a 2-year plan, you might only be able to access 3 months’ worth of funding at a time.
- Unspent funds from a period will generally roll over to the next period within the same plan.
- This staged release is designed to help with budget management and prevent running out of funds early.

Why the Change?

- The new structure aims to provide more transparency, encourage regular plan reviews, and ensure funding is used consistently over the plan’s duration.
- It also allows for more timely interventions if there are issues with spending or support delivery.

Other Important Updates

- Plans will show a total budget amount (not individual line items), making it clearer how much funding you have and how long it needs to last.
- The NDIS will only add extra funding in specific situations, like emergencies.
- All new participants from January 2025 will receive an impairment notice, which will link directly to funding decisions.

What Should You Do?

- Be aware of your funding period dates and budget accordingly.
- Attend NDIA information sessions if you need more guidance.
- If you have a review or new plan after 19 May 2025, check how your funds are split and plan your supports to match the new release schedule.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day and a matter that is close to my heart ❤️‍🩹

Tragically, su***de is the leading cause of death among Australians aged 15-44 years. In fact, every day in Australia, 9 people die by su***de.
As a tragic and complex issue, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution to this multifaceted problem.

Make today the day to start the conversation about mental illness and su***de, and come together in solidarity to create hope through action. Together, we can change the narrative and show people impacted by mental illness and su***de that they're not alone ✨

Yesterday, the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill 2024 was passed by the Parliament.

This Bill has not come into effect yet, so there is not any immediate change. We will make sure that participants and the disability community know when change is coming, what to expect and how people with disability can be involved in co-designing changes.
