Should I Add Cardio To My Fitness Routine? 🤔

The short answer is yes!
While combining cardio with strength training is the most effective way to reach weight loss and fitness goals it also has may other benefits such as improving heart and lung function, improving cholesterol and triglyceride levels, boost your metabolism and immune system, releases endorphins and improves overall energy levels. 🔋🏃‍♀️

It’s recommended to aim for at least 150 minutes of cardiovascular activity each week to see the best results. But with so many types of cardio, how do you know which one to choose? Let’s break it down

🚶🏼 Steady-State Cardio
This includes activities like jogging, brisk walking, cycling, or swimming at a consistent pace for an extended time (usually 30–60 minutes).
Benefits: Improves endurance, burns calories, reduces stress, and is easier to sustain long-term.

🏋🏽 High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
HIIT involves short bursts of intense effort followed by rest or low-intensity movement (e.g., sprinting for 30 seconds, then walking for 1 minute).
Benefits: Burns more calories in less time, boosts metabolism for hours after exercise, and improves both aerobic and anaerobic fitness.

🏊🏼‍♀️ Low-Impact Cardio
These are gentler on the joints, such as walking, using an elliptical, or water aerobics.
Benefits: Ideal for beginners, older adults, or those with injuries. Still effective for heart health and fat loss without strain on the body.

👫 Group Fitness Cardio (e.g. Zumba, Spin, Step Classes)
These are instructor-led classes that keep your heart rate up through rhythmic, fun movement.

Tracking Your Gym Progress Allows For Better Results 💪🏋‍♀

Tracking your workouts is essential not only for staying motivated, but also for identifying progress, spotting plateaus, making informed adjustments to your routine, and ultimately maximising your fitness results over time.

Why It Matters?
🏃 Motivation: See how far you’ve come by tracking your improvements and celebrating small wins.
🏋🏻 Progress: Spot plateaus early and adjust your workouts to keep moving forward.
🎯 Goals: Set realistic, trackable goals that build momentum and keep you focused.

There are many ways to track progress, but trying to do too much can feel overwhelming and make it harder to stay consistent. Keeping the process simple helps you stick with it, avoid burnout, and save time.

Things such as having a workout log to record exercises, sets, reps, weights, and cardio duration. Taking progress photos, Track improvements in form, and exercise ease, Body Measurements, Using tracking apps or fitness watched such as Apple to track heart rate, calories, steps, sleep, and recovery and breaking big goals into smaller achievable steps to stay motivated are all simple ways to track your progress.

A structured workout program is the best place to start. It keeps you consistent, helps you target the right muscle groups, and makes it easier to track your progress while making smart adjustments along the way. It's important to train each major muscle group 2–3 times a week and give yourself at least 48 hours of rest before working the same group again.

Strength training is essential focus on compound movements like squats, deadlifts, bench presses, overhead presses, and rows. These exercises work multiple muscle groups at once and are great for building overall size and strength. 💪🌟
Aiming for 8–12 reps with moderate to heavy weights that challenge you by the last few reps, while still allowing you to maintain good form. 👍

We’re unstaffed Good Friday to Easter Monday. Back to normal staffed hours Tuesday to Thursday, then unstaffed for Anzac Day and Saturday 26th April.

Classes will pause Thursday night and resume Tuesday 9am 💪

Dear Stepperz 🧡 with the recent 🌀 Cyclone Alfred update the club will be unstaffed from 12pm today until Monday. Members will have access until 2pm Friday, then we unplug everything electrical so we don’t experience a power surge (again - yay not).
Hopefully it’s only for a day or so. We’ll keep everyone updated if conditions change. For anything urgent please message us.
