Martina, an Occupational Therapist specialising in sensory integration, had a vision to establish a qualified multidisciplinary team to provide holistic and evidence-based care in the Bega Valley.

Bounce Therapy Services has now been providing accessible and compassionate care for 3 years with clinics in Bega and more recently Merimbula.

There is so much pressure at Christmas to buy your children the perfect toy. You might be this help my child's development?" "Is it educational?".

When we're thinking about language development, the key is to look for toys which provide opportunities to enhance interactions between you and your child. The more words and sentences you can use when playing, the better!

This can look like:

🎁 Old school toys

Lovely morning meeting some future kindy kids and parents at Bega Valley Public School orientation today. Come say hi and grab some resources on getting into the swing of school and lunchbox tips.

Starting school can bring on lots of big feelings for children and their caregivers. It's so great having these sessions to help everyone feel more comfortable and confident.

At Bounce lately:
1) Loving our new sensory wall in the gym put together by Recreational Therapist Jess and some of our young people 💜
2) Speech Pathologist Sophie interviewed on ABC radio for World Stroke Day
3) Dietitian Cath finding these cute sandwich cutters at K-mart Bega - perfect to add a bit of variation for our kids who get bored easily 🥪

October 17th is DLD Awareness day! Here is our speech pathologist Sophie is completing some invaluable training with the DLD Project on the latest research and evidence-based strategies to support families living with DLD.

You may never have heard of DLD, or Developmental Language Disorder, but it affects about 1 child in every Australian classroom.

It is a lifelong condition that causes difficulty with language.

People with DLD may struggle to understand words, follow instructions or answer questions. They might also struggle to find the right words to express their ideas, or have difficulty reading and writing.

DLD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is not attributed to other conditions such as hearing loss, intellectual disability or autism, but may co-occur with ADHD or dyslexia. There is no single known cause for DLD.

People with DLD can succeed in life with the right support that recognises their unique strengths and challenges!

Today Martina, Inca & Katherine met with local MP to talk about Bounce's local multidisciplinary allied health & early intervention services.

We spoke about how wait times and changes to NDIS are impacting on local community's access to critical support.

Kristy is supporting us to share these issues to the health minister.

Did you catch dietitian Cath on ABC South East Breakfast this morning?
Cath and Eddie talked about how many Australians are living with malnutrition and what you can look for in loved ones and people you're caring for, including:
- Unintentional weight loss or for children not meeting their growth trajectory
- Eating less and not enjoying favourite foods
- Less active and less interested in favourite activities
- Sleeping more than usual
- More frequent illness

💜 Seeing an accredited practising dietitian can restore function and quality of life 💜

Sophie has been busy! This week she was a guest speaker at the Bega Stroke Recovery Club, sharing lots of information about communication after stroke.
