Most Australians understand their health numbers, such as blood pressure, blood cholesterol, fasting blood glucose and body mass index and understand the consequences if numbers are too high and how and when to mitigate their risks.

It is equally important to be aware of your eye health numbers, and what the risk could include. For example, high eye pressure can be an indication of glaucoma which can cause irreversible vision loss due to damage to the optic nerve. The loss of sight is usually gradual and a considerable amount of peripheral (side) vision may be lost before there is an awareness of any problem.

Over 300,000 Australians are estimated to have glaucoma
50% are unaware they have it because they haven’t had a comprehensive eye exam
If you have a family history of glaucoma you have a 1 in 4 chance of developing it too.
You should have a comprehensive eye exam every 2 years from the age of 50; or from the age of 40 if you have a family history of glaucoma or are of Asian or African descent.

Just like Kirk Pengilly from INXS, 300,000 Australians are affected by glaucoma. World Glaucoma Week (12-18 March 2023) reminds us if left undiagnosed and untreated, it can cause blindness. If detected early, glaucoma can be managed.

Everyone should treat their eyes to a test every 2 years, especially family members of someone with glaucoma (it can be hereditary), and those over 50 years of age.

So, treat yourself, Just as you go to the dentist or doctor for a check-up, you need to put an eye exam on your things-to-do list

Early detection of any eye condition through children’s vision testing is vital even before school age. Often children tend only to be examined if they have a problem reading a book. Only 8% of Australian children aged 0–14 have had a comprehensive vision assessment, despite an estimated one in four suffering from an undetected vision problem.

Reading fluency is just one measure of good vision and eye health.
We have full ranges of children’s glasses to cater for any optical correction in glasses or contacts, in addition to your child’s eye test.

Polarized lenses can be affected by extreme heat, such as when left in a car on a very hot day.

However, better quality polarised sun lenses offer the most stable heat and colour performance in a polarized lens.

To be sure though, if possible keep your sunglasses in a cool, dark place when you aren’t wearing them.

Use them for excellent glare protection and improved contrast while driving.

Glare experienced outdoors can be classified according to the way it impacts the eye and the quality of vision.
Some types of glare are merely annoying and can lower vision quality, whereas other types of glare are dangerous and can cause great discomfort and even pain. Only quality polarized lenses provide a solution for each category of glare. Ordinary tinted lenses cannot eliminate each type of glare patients are exposed to in day-to-day life. There’s only a few instances in which polarized lenses may not be the best solution, such as pilots when flying a plane where cross polarisation could occur.

Blinding or reflected glare is the most dangerous type of glare and the biggest safety risk because it can block or seriously obscure vision.
Blinding glare can also cause significant discomfort and even pain. This type of glare is created when light is reflected off shiny or smooth surfaces such as roads, water, sand, wet surfaces, or chrome and shiny surfaces inside a car. Only polarized lenses can block this type of glare.
Disabling glare is light from a direct light source such as that experienced when facing the sun.
This glare can cause discomfort and can obscure vision, thereby diminishing vision quality.

Discomforting glare can occur at any time of the day or in any weather condition.
It is when the eye is unable to naturally adapt to certain conditions such as moving from shade into bright sunlight. It can cause short-lived eye fatigue.
Due to the safety risk of blinding glare, a polarized lens is the optimal outdoor lens solution for most people.

Not to mention increased quality of vision one can experience: colours are more vibrant and brilliant, contrast increased and depth perception enhanced, in addition to greater comfort and safety on the road and elsewhere.

Glare is a visual sensation that occurs when too much light enters your eye and interferes with ability of the eye to manage this light.
Glare can be classified according to the way it impacts the eye and the impact if has on the quality of vision.
When choosing a pair of sunglasses for running, it’s a good idea to wear polarized lenses to protect your eyes from glare.

The difference between polarized lenses and regular sunglass lenses is how they handle glare, particularly blinding glare from reflective surfaces like water and wet surfaces.

Regular sunglass lenses cannot block blinding glare, so it’s best to invest in a good pair of polarized lenses like NuPolar for optical vision and comfort around water and in bright sunlight.
NuPolar lenses offer protection from the 3 types of glare: Blinding glare, disabling glare and discomforting glare.
