Yurt Nirvana

Yurt Nirvana Yoga, yurts, therapy, beauty, self sufficiency, community, off grid, natural living, self determination, self realisation. We have a Dream!

And its time to share! Imagine a beautiful valley, under an open sky. Imagine yoga in the round, or under the stars. Meditation, dancing, cooking on an open fire. Imagine sharing community with like-minded people. Taking responsibilty, taking ownership, exploring possibilities, pushing boundaries. This is the vision of Yurt Nirvana. Living in round houses, going back to basics, simplicity. Using modern ideas where they are helpful and advantageous, relearning old skills to energise ancient feelings of being centred, rooted and grounded. Enjoying beautiful surroundings and adding our own magic. Working, sharing, nurturing, building.

Looking for short term or longterm helpers For Off grid permaculture homestead in Far South Coast

Nirvana Farm Estate is over 200 acres of regrowth forest off the Snowy mountain Highway. We are on a well kept dirt road, with about 3 cars a day passing by! We back up on the national forest with a short cut through to the Brogo dam.
We are completely off grid and are establishing an organic, sustainable permaculture farm and lifestyle.
The property is quiet and private with a narrow road frontage, a high lookout point and lots of native flora and fauna.
Kangaroos hop through morning and evening with their joeys, echidnas hide out, goannas and skinks, wombats and all kinds of birds including kookaburras, eagles, little wagtails.

We have 2 good dams and other rainwater storage, some solar capacity and loads and loads of potential

The property is 20 minutes drive from Bega, with all the facilities of a country town.
20 minutes from Bemboka with a post office, swimming pool and Village Hall.
40 minutes from Tathra with its magnificent beach, wharf, local pub and other eateries.
40 minutes from Merimbula with the airport, beaches, water-sports and tourist facilities and attractions, including whale watching, hiking trails, art galleries, eateries etc

Dinah and Dean have been in the Bega Valley since 2017. Dean is a consultant and often works away in the city. He is the builder, handyman and chief joker in the family. He likes karaoke, making beer, hunting and fishing.
Dinah is a yoga teacher and therapist. Since setting up the therapy centre in Tura Beach, she spends a lot of time down there. When at Nirvana she’ll be planning the garden, researching the best way to develop the farm and animal husbandry, and experimenting with all kinds of ideas discovered from YouTubers and other homesteaders .
She is also developing her own YouTube channel.

We teach yoga onsite and at the local village hall.
We have regular sound bath meditation sessions
We practice agni hotra and other fire practices
We run a therapy centre offsite, providing salt therapy, lymphatic stimulation, red light and infrared therapy etc

We also have developed many skills which we are looking to share and pass on. These include food preservation, chain saw and tractor use, animal husbandry and best practice, sewing, cooking, furniture building, construction, cheese, bread and beer making, gardening etc etc

Current projects
Steel frame house-build.
Small buildings - sheds, community kitchen, fire-pits

Biogas system for cooking gas production and waste reduction
Community ablutions

Rabbitry, chickens, sheep, dairy cows, bees keeping - deep litter method, pasture and soil building, meat production (on site cool room, meat processing etc)

You will need
To be community minded and able to get along with others, come to and stick to agreements, and make compromises.
Preferably have an understanding of the Great Reset, Agenda 2030/Agenda 21.
To be 100% honest, fair minded, self motivated and thorough worker.

We offer free accommodation in return for a few hours work each day (to be agreed)
And further work may be agreed as an exchange for yoga classes etc, or at an agreed rate. We believe in fair exchange, barter and happy workers.

Facilities are limited. Washing facilities are ready to be built but not yet functional. We use earth toilets, camp showers etc
You will need to be self sufficient and mostly self contained. We aim to eat together at least once a week, we can share the produce generated, and our aim will be to make you welcome and as comfortable as possible.
We will prioritise the community facilities so things will be as pleasant as possible as quickly as possible!

We are open to both short term and long term helpers.
If you want to come down for a working holiday, or are looking for a longterm home where you can settle and enjoy the off grid lifestyle we invite you to apply for a 1-2 week trial to see how we all get on, or just come down for the weekend for an initial look around.

Longterm we will be looking for permanent caretakers and all visitors can consider this potential.
Character, compatibility and reliability will be the most important things as the whole idea is based on trust and relationships.

Families and children welcome
Pets can be considered as long as they are well managed, kept inside at night and dont pose a threat to livestock etc
No drugs, heavy drinkers, chancers or bunny boilers!

Send your email address to Dinah on Messenger and we will send you an application, so you can let us know about your self (and family if relevant), when you might like to come down and what you are most interested in doing/learning offgrid

Yurt Nirvana is on the Far South Coast of NSW. A place called the Sapphire Coast!
A beautiful and largely unknown gem, where the Melbournians come to holiday but noone else knows exists!!
The coastline runs a string of crystal clear lagoons. Oysters grow in abundance and filter the water within an inch of its life!!
Every year we see the annual migration of the whales, up to The Barrier Reef to spawn, and back down to the Southern seas to feed.
Deep green forests of 100ft trees come right down to the waters edge. Manta rays fly elegantly between the oyster beds.
Kangaroos and wallabies come down to drink.
Eagles fly together in wheeling circles overhead.

Our plan was to drive around Australia to find our perfect place.
This is where we have landed!
And I couldnt be happier

Why ‘Nirvana’?

Wikipedia says
‘In Indian religions, nirvana is synonymous with moksha and mukti. All Indian religions assert it to be a state of perfect quietude, freedom, highest happiness as well as the liberation from attachment and worldly suffering and the ending of samsara, the round of existence.’

‘Moksha (Sanskrit: मोक्ष),
also called vimoksha, vimukti and mukti, is a term in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism for various forms of emancipation, enlightenment, liberation, and release.
It refers to freedom from dukkha, the cycle of death and rebirth (saṃsāra),by knowledge of the true self (Atman-jnana), the lack of a permanent essence, and the release from craving and clinging to passions and the mundane mind.’

Our vision for Yurt Nirvana is to sustain a place of joy and calm, where health of all things can be reclaimed and generated.

We lost wildlife and ecosystems in the fires, but they are regenerating.
The kangaroos are back, drinking at the dams.
Wild ducks, wagtails and many other birds fly in, singing their own songs and doing their own dances.
I saw Mr Echidna on the path the other day.
A red bellied black snake sped across the surface of the dam to escape our approach. And another one hid under the pile of grasses I was planting. As I removed the clumps of grass, she scooped her tail out of sight and then decided to nest elsewhere as the pile grew less and less.

A 2m monitor lizard investigated our rubbish that hadnt quite made it to the wormery. We filmed it and interacted with it.

We are watched succession as it plays out across our land. Pioneer plants pop up. (We call them weeds). They secure and cover the dirt, improving the land. Then next generation plants move in, sequestering carbon and donating nitrogen. Over time the landscape matures.
As keepers of the land, we can help to speed and improve this process, working with Nature instead of fighting her.

Nature lives in peace and harmony. As we work with her, and take our place in her work, we too are nurtured, supported and enlivened.

As we heal the land, we heal ourselves and can reach out to heal the World 🌸

Nirvana Farm Estate is over 200 acres of regrowth forest in the Far South Coast area.
It backs up on the South East Forest which is part of a corridor of forestland which runs almost unbroken south/north from Gippsland in Victoria to the far north of NSW.
As far as we know the previous owners ran cattle here a few decades ago, but it has never been developed.
8 or 9 gullies run with rainwater off the escarpment in the National Park. 1 is dammed, the rest join together and flow out across a wide delta, fertilising and hydrating the land it covers .

The soil is rich and fertile. The product of hundreds of years of being left alone!
This wet year the planting has been easy into the soft topsoil.

The Black Summer fires swept through the Estate and we lost many trees. Sadly the largest and oldest burned for longest, so their majesty is now a memory. But some survived and still enhance our space.

We have many survivor trees! They burst out into leaves and foliage within days of the fires.
I call them ‘refugee’ trees. Their profile that next year was of a tall burnt stick, with limbs and branches bare and stark.
But the whole trunk was covered in a fuzz of new growth. Bright shiny soft new leaves spurting out from the blackened bark, sucking in the sunlight and CO2.
Feeding life into the inner woody heart which still beats its slow tempo of sap rising and determined recovery.
Gradualy their profile has changed. Apart from dead branches and limbs the trees, they have now regained their strength and look more and more like normal trees. They will be the next generation of large trees gracing our parkland.

Permaculture is a lot more than gardening!
When I first discovered it I was so happy to discover a sustainable, regenerative and intelligent way to live equitably with the land.
It feels like we are extending yoga principles to our farming and community building projects

A quick look at the concepts of Permaculture. I try to define what it is, and then get at why Permaculture is important for a world that is facing a rapidly ...
