Dr Greg Jenkins Fertility, Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Dr Greg Jenkins Fertility, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Leading specialist in Fertility, Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Head of O&G at Westmead Public Hospital & Clinical Assoc Prof at UNDA.

Providing compassionate care & continuity from fertility to pregnancy at Norwest & Westmead Private. I trained in the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology at Westmead Hospital after obtaining my medical degree from the University of Sydney. After spending one year of advanced training in the United Kingdom I commenced private practice in 1996. Since then I have held the position of Visiting Medical Officer in Western Sydney Area Health Service. As well as working out of Norwest Private Hospital, I have an appointment at Westmead Public Hospital where I am the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. Through my work at Westmead, I am regularly involved in the care of complex and high-risk patients. I am involved in the teaching of medical students from the Universities of Notre Dame and Sydney and am also extensively involved in the training of junior doctors in the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology. I am presently the Chair of Training for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and am also a NSW representative on the College’s federal council. The major focus of my private practice is endeavouring to provide high-quality personalised care, whether that be related to pregnancy, gynaecological problems or infertility. Your due date is a guide, not a guarantee.

Only around 4% of babies arrive on their exact due date. We use scans and cycle data to estimate as accurately as possible and provide ongoing monitoring in the final weeks to ensure everything stays on track. Accurately knowing your “due date” is an essential component of pregnancy care and planning.

One of the benefits of my dual experience in fertility and obstetrics is the ability to care for you from conception through to delivery.

Women who conceive following infertility treatment or via IVF often appreciate the reassurance of being looked after by someone who understands the full journey.

Continuity helps ensure smooth transitions and better communication.

I’m pleased to now offer obstetric care at Westmead Private Hospital.

This gives patients more choice and flexibility in where they give birth. Westmead Private is a modern, well-equipped hospital with experienced midwifery teams, on-site neonatal support and calm, supportive birth suites.

Whether you’re seeking continuity of care from early pregnancy or planning for a more complex delivery, I’m now able to support you at both Norwest and Westmead Private, depending on what suits your needs best.

For families looking for a more cost-conscious option without compromising specialist care, I also offer delivery at Westmead Public Hospital, where the medical care remains the same, in a public hospital setting.

Bookings are now open.

In both obstetrics and long-distance running, things do not always unfold the way you expect.

Earlier this year, I made the decision to withdraw from a 160km ultramarathon at 107km into the race. It was a challenging moment, but also a valuable one. It reminded me that preparation matters, but adaptability matters just as much.

In pregnancy and birth, plans can change. My role is to stay calm, reassess the situation and guide people through uncertainty with care and clear decision-making.

I shared a short reflection about what running has taught me about this kind of mindset.

A reflection on how the mindset needed in long-distance running parallels the adaptability and calm required in obstetrics when things don’t go to plan.

Choosing between private and public obstetric care is an important decision.

In private obstetric care, you see the same obstetrician throughout your pregnancy. This continuity allows for longer appointments, detailed follow-ups, and a consistent relationship with your doctor. You also have more control over your hospital choice and can plan for a familiar face during labour and delivery.

Public care is typically provided through hospital-based teams, often involving rotating doctors and midwives. While still excellent in quality, you may not see the same clinician each time. Your care is generally guided by the hospital's schedule and structure.

Both systems aim for safe, healthy outcomes. The difference lies in how your care is delivered and how much continuity you prefer.
