It’s been a few weeks since I posted our running progress mainly because progress has come to a standstill. I strained a muscle in my hip a couple of weeks ago so had to rest it… urgh!!!
I’m not overly good at resting.
We went for a run last week and my hip was really sore after, so no running for the week….
Good news we went running yesterday and my hip was perfectly fine. Yes I will still be taking it slowly for the next couple of weeks because city to bay is coming up.
Flynn of course has been a little champion. Well not so little really.
He is now wearing headphones so running with music which I think makes it so much better. He needs to download himself a running playlist now. 😊

It was perfect running weather this weekend. We did parkrun on Saturday and another personal best. My time was 34.47 so a few seconds better than last week, Flynn was about 5 seconds on front of me. We also saw dolphins 🐬, which is always wonderful.
Sunday we decided we would run the Seacliff parkrun course. We were about 3/4 finished when my right hip decided I wasn’t running anymore today… urgh, so frustrating. I gave Flynn the option of walking with me or finishing the run on his own, and the champion he is, he chose to finish the run. I’m so proud of how far he has come, 6 months ago he was complaining about running for 30 seconds. ❤️ His time today was around 34 mins, I was 38 mins.

Last weekend we didn’t get a run in at all…. The weather was just against us. We did our 3rd parkrun on Saturday. We managed to get another personal best, with a time of 34.54 mins. Nearly 2 mins faster than last time. Flynn came 1st in his age group, what a champion. I came 5th in mine.
Next week we might try a different parkrun!! If any of you have done parkrun and have a favourite me know.

We managed to get 2 runs in this weekend. We did our 2nd Parkrun on Saturday. It was horrendously windy at Christie’s beach, but we managed. Our time was 36.18mins. Flynn came 2nd in his age group and I came 6th in mine. Not that we are competitive but both of us want to get under 30 mins and come in 1st in our age group.
With that in mind Flynn asked today if we can train to be able to run 5km without stopping. So we went back to following the c25k app. My Achilles has been really good so I’m taking the increases in running at a much slower pace than I normally would and my body is thanking me for it.
Today’s run was 5min warm up, 3min run, 1.30 min walk, 5min run, 2.30 min walk, 3min run, 1.30min walk, 5 min run, 5 min cooldown. We covered 4.2 kms in 31 mins. Won’t be long and we will be running the full 5km.
I’m super happy that Flynn still wants to come out running with me and is now setting his own running goals. 😊🏃‍♀️

We had a running win and a running fail this weekend.
I’ll start with the fail. Sundays run was abandoned due to the near hurricane wind at Christie’s beach this morning. Poor Flynn had to work really hard not only to run but to not get blown away. We did manage to get in 2.5kms before we gave in and let the wind win!

On Saturday we did our 1st Parkrun. It was great fun and now I know why so many people participate weekly. It’s all run by volunteers and they were so helpful and friendly. We were a bit late so missed the start. We started the run at about 8.10, the run starts at 8. You are timed from 8am so our times are not accurate. All parkruns are 5kms. Our time was 43.07mins. Flynn was 10th in his age group, I was 5th in mine 😊. I can’t wait to see how we go when we start on time. 😊

I didn’t take a photo after parkrun and you can see by our hair how windy it was this morning. I thought you would enjoy this photo of Buddy this morning with the beautiful sunrise.

Another gorgeous day for a run…. Only one run this weekend.
Flynn and I went out for a run Saturday, we got out the car and it started raining, it started to get heavier so we decided to can the run. Then on the way home it stopped raining and didn’t rain again all day!!
But Sunday morning was perfect. We did interval training again and in 1hr 9mins covered exactly 10kms!!
Flynn didn’t stop once not even to let me catch up. He just slowed his running down so I could catch up to him. He is very quickly learning how to pace himself. 😊

What a beautiful morning for a run. The track was a bit wet, but apart from that it was perfect.

Flynn and I ran today, I had other commitments yesterday and didn’t have time to run.
We did interval training for distance today. We were out for a total of 65 mins and covered 9.5km.
We are going to start to do a short run and a long run on the weekends. So stay tuned for our progress.
I have informed Flynn he will be doing City to Bay with me, the full 12km. He was hesitant at first but is on board now.

What an absolutely beautiful weekend for a couple of runs.
Sorry if you missed us last weekend, I was in Melbourne visiting my Mum, and Flynn wasn’t well the weekend before so this was our first run together for a couple of weeks. I decided to mix it up a bit and we did some interval training.
Saturdays run was 53 mins long - 1 min run, 90 sec walk we covered exactly 8km!!
Sundays run was 57 mins long - 90 sec run, 90 sec walk we covered 8.65km!! We also had a special guest with us, Flynn’s friend Malia.
I’m going to mix up the training we do now, some intervals and some longer runs. Let’s see how we go. 😊

This weekend won’t count as a training week, as Flynn and I haven’t been for a run together this weekend. 😢
Yesterday was too wet (we have 1 get out of running rule, we don’t run if it’s raining before we start) which it was Saturday. Today poor Flynn has tested positive for influenza A, so he isn’t very well. I did a run/skipping workout at the gym, but that doesn’t really count. Hopefully Flynn will be back soon and we can continue to smash our training goals.
The photo is at the beach this morning, yes it was as cold as it looks. But the good thing is we had the beach to ourselves.

We managed to run both days this weekend, both were challenging runs, but we smashed it. Consistency is paying off.
Saturday our run was - 5 min warm up, 5 min run, 3 min walk, 5 min run, 3 min walk, 5 min run, 5 min cool down we covered 4.49km.
Sunday was 5 min warm up, 8 min run, 5 min walk, 8 min run, 5 min cool down we covered 4.34km.
Flynn was amazing as usual and didn’t have to stop even with the longer running times. I’m pretty sure we will be hitting the magical 5km very soon.

Week 17
We only ran on Sunday this weekend, I tried something different Saturday and it really didn’t work so we abandoned the run.
Anyhow Sunday we smashed it and Rachel joined us.
Our run was the same as last weekends - 5 min warmup, 3min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run, 3min walk, 3min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run, 5 min cooldown. We covered 4.34km and it was windy so happy with that.
I really don’t like running in the wind but will have to adjust my attitude and just learn to like it.

We ran both days again this weekend and we smashed it on both days 😊. Flynn is consistently faster than me now, but that’s ok he has youth on his side 😂.
Our run timing was the same both days - 5 min warm up, 3 min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run, 2.5min walk, 3 min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run, 5min cool down. On Saturday we covered 4.34km on Sunday we covered 4.35km. We also saw more kangaroos today than we have in a long time. Maybe because of the rain yesterday.
