I’ll be using as my sole account now, I actually consolidated this months ago but realised I didn’t make a post over here 🌹

Would love if you’d stay connected over there as I am slowing shifting back into offering bodywork, Ayurvedic consultations, retreats and community workshops… I’ve posted a couple of sessions in these photos so you can get an idea of what I’ve been getting up to lately.

I’m starting women’s dance circles again in Bello next month and didn’t want some of you who stayed connected with me here to miss it. So follow over there to stay updated.

With love, Carmela xo

Honouring a teacher of mine and a teacher of many today as we learn of the passing of Sally Kempton 🪔

Her generous and bountiful teachings of Kashmir Shaivism and of the goddess have offered so much to my life and to many around me also (mainly sisters) as a way and a lens in which we could connect with these deep philosophical teachings in a contextual manner for this day and age.

I first came into Sally teachings when my dear sis .__ lent me her copy of ‘Awakening Shakti’ around the time of my wedding, suggesting I read deeper into the teaching of goddess Parvati. I instantly gained so much perspective on entering into sacred union with my beloved, and drew upon this energy as I grew into the woman I am.

Since then there has been a major point of connection for me in Sally’s teachings at every major initiation of my life as I delved deeper into her ecourses and Navaratri offerings, they always seemed to come at very auspicious times of my life and of my journey of pregnancy and motherhood. I feel deeply connected to this teacher, and so she and her teachings will live on in me as I’m sure many others as well. In my heart and my gratitude.

May you rest in peace and light as your eternal spirit soars Sally 🤍🕊️📿
The eternal light in me honours the eternal light in you 🌟

A month ago I completed my 2.5 year qualification as a Women’s Wellness counsellor in Feminine Form Ayurveda and Ta**ra.

I am so grateful for for what they are giving to women all over the world and for carrying these ancient teachings, trialed and tested for 5000 years, forward and into the modern world where it is SO desperately needed.

Thank you for the honour of being able to sit at the feet of incredible teachers, guides and wise-women, who have so graciously and generously shared their lifetimes of knowledge and life’s teachings with us. And for my fellow class-Shakti-sisters who walked along side me and who I also learn so much from.

This feels like the summit of a 11 year long journey of formal and informal studies of the 3 Vedic rivers of knowledge - Ayurveda, Yoga and Traditional Ta**ra, beginning on the banks of the Ganges River in Rishikesh, India in 2012. I remember feeling in awe during that first Yoga teacher training at the mystery and radiant brilliance of these ancient wisdom bodies of knowledge, and I see how many seeds of my calling were planted during that first month of immersion.

I never imagined it was the beginning of a lifelong path of studentship in these sacred ways 📿

It was really big completing my qualifications while having a baby, catching lectures in 30 minute intervals every nap time while my baby sleeps on my chest in her wrap carrier… but I am so thirsty for self knowledge, that never seems to fade, and my passion propels me forward like the drum beat of the heart I dance to. I am also blessed with a large capacity to hold (good ojas 😉🕯️) especially the most important things to me, to manage to be able to study while not jeopardising the fullness of presence required to be the mother I wanted to be for Maiya took much intention, effort and care and that part I am proud of. My study seemed to GIVE me energy and inspiration, rather than depleted me, which is so important during postpartum.

In an exciting time when we are learning so much about how stress in its many forms forms effect our health and vitality... why are we still shaming women that take care of themselves through self-care practices that bring them balance? ? ?

I can't tell you how many times its been implied that my abhyanga practice (warm oil massage) or meditation practice or steaming etc is a LUXURY or superficial / vain action! The women of so many traditional cultures around the world had self care practices because they knew it was preventative medicine. And no they were not living in what we would call "luxury", far from it.

We experiences imbalances in our body/mind environment that can be counteracted with daily practices whether those practices have been prescribed to someone or have come intuitively.
Not tending to these imbalances creates stress in the mind and the bodys systems this propels the disease pathway into its course. Our state of being effects the mind which effects the body BEFORE its even visible to us.

Do we call it a luxury or self centered when people are undergoing surgery or taking heavy medication to heal? No we don't, that would be ridiculous, of course that person is undergoing whats neccesary to keep living and regain health and vitality... so why do we call it vanity when a woman takes care of her mind-body-emotions through self care with the understanding that it is PREVENTING illness?
Well here's one part of the answer... its a core wound of the feminine playing out, the shaming of women who value their radiance and vitality 🥀
AND the more we keep shaming women for this.. the less women will do it, be open about it or share it with other women in fear of being shamed and rejected, its in this repression the bitterness grows and the wound is passed on.
And, sadly, in this perpetuation womens wisdom is lost.

Ayurvedically we understand the disease pathway begins with a simple imbalance of dosha aka the elements in the body, this is several stages before one would go in to see a doctor and yet more stages before a western diagnostic name be given. Self-care can settle these doshic imbalances in an empowered way that allows each person to be their own healer.

The way you care for your self IS preventative medicine and this WAS a valued and honoured aspect of womens wisdom as carers and nurturers of the home and hearth.

Each time I step into the role of therapist, of body worker, the moment becomes sacred.

Over the years in this role, if theres one thing that I have fallen deeper in reverence to, it is that of the deep trust taking place.

The understanding that the person laying on the table under my hands has placed a great deal of trust in me. Not just trust in ability or skills, or the comfortability of treatment itself, as the platonic intimacy of anothers hands on your body can be confronting for many. But a trust on the unseen level - the trust that "allows another in", that allows the walls we create within ourselves to come down, the masks to come off, the "I'm good thanks" to be replaced with a real and raw response.

And it fills me with deep respect to this person that I am to be trusted by them in this way.

The only appropriate response for me as a therapist is to hold unshakeable safety in that moment. To create such an unmoving container of care for the unravelling of experience and its contents that emanates the knowing that your worry, your grief, your heartache, your confusion, your sadness aswell as your joy is valid here. It is seen here. It is heard. It is held and it is also sacred.

The body speaks even when the mouth does not, and often this communication takes place through the language of the muscles, the flesh, the lymph, the deep breaths of release and relief, the softening through the whole body that takes place, and I have come to understand that my role is mostly that of deep listening.

My modality is Ayurvedic Massage, including prenatal and postpartum 💗, garshana (Ayurvedic dry scrub), and herb/ flower essence treatments. Taking bookings for treatments in clinic in both Bellingen & Coffs Harbour.

Blessings,
Carmela x

Someone told me the other day that Ayurveda is a "buzz word" at the moment and asked me what actually is it?... and while I cringed a little towards a very ancient science being a "buzz", I found myself trying to put into concise sentences something that is both such a complex and intricate science, yet the most simple and intuitive language that the body speaks.

It encompasses the is the relationship of you and... everything!
Of you and your physical body, of you and nature, your emotions, your sleep, your spiritual practice, your food, the divine, the way you talk, the season and cycles... everything.

You see, your body is always trying to bring you into balance.
Towards your 'Prakruti' - your balanced constitution, your 'primal nature' as it translates to.

It is an understanding of this dance, this play of everything from physical to cosmic - without seeing the physical and cosmic as seperate.

It understands that WE ARE nature, and that we need to look into nature if we want to understand ourselves.

On a practical level, applying even the basics of Ayurveda into our life can assist us in on our journey of bringing in balance and deeper fulfillent in life.

The beauty of the Ayurvedic perspective on our wellbeing is that it is completely individualised, it understands that no 2 peoples constitutions (Prakruti) are the same - and therefore offers a system in which we can observe nature, its qualities and its energy, and apply that to our own body, as a part of nature itself.

This provides the greatest potential of self-healing as it is simply nature coming back into its natural state or equilibrium.

Through its understanding of the elements/ Doshas at play within the body, we approach the dis- ease and discomfort within our body or life and observe it in its elemental quality, and what needs to be balanced in order to bring wellbeing, stability, clear mindedness and optimal health.

Backed by the most ancient system of medicine - 5,000 years old - Its the OG holistic way of approaching healing and transformation!
