💜 The Power of Play

Play is one of the most powerful ways children learn, explore and connect with the world.

Through play, children develop language, confidence, creativity and social skills, building the foundations for lifelong learning.

Early experiences matter. With 90% of brain development happening before the age of five, opportunities for play and connection are critical in the early years.

At Koorana, our supported playgroups are designed to do more than bring families together. They are staffed by early childhood educators and family workers, follow a curriculum aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework, and use an evidence-based approach where inclusion is embedded so children of all abilities can participate and thrive.

This week we celebrate Neurodiversity Week — a time to recognise and value the many different ways children think, learn, communicate and experience the world.

Neurodiversity acknowledges that differences such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other neurological variations are a natural part of human diversity. They are simply different ways of being.

Every child brings their own strengths, perspectives and ways of understanding the world. When we create environments that recognise and support these differences, all children have the opportunity to thrive.

Supporting neurodivergent children means:

• Listening to children and their families
• Valuing different ways of communicating, learning and playing
• Creating inclusive early learning environments
• Adapting supports to build on each child’s strengths
• Promoting belonging, respect and understanding

When we embrace neurodiversity, we help create communities where every child feels seen, valued and supported.
