Asking for help is an important skill that fosters problem-solving and boosts confidence in children. To encourage your child to ask for help, parents can model positive attitudes toward help-seeking, make themselves available, and create environments that prompt children to seek assistance.

✨ OT on the Platform Swing! ✨

Last week, we hosted a placement student from LaSalle Catholic College. Here, she helped set up for one of Mariam's OT session.

We used the Hide & Squeak Eggs matching activity while sitting on a moving platform swing. 🥚

Goals targeted:
💪 Core strength & postural control: Balancing on the swing helps strengthen stomach and back muscles needed for sitting in class and staying upright during play.

🧠 Motor planning & sequencing: Find the egg ➜ close it ➜ place it back in the carton. A perfect way to build organisation and problem-solving skills.

👐 Fine motor & bilateral coordination: Opening and closing eggs requires both hands to work together with control and precision.

👀 Visual attention & colour recognition: Sorting by colour supports visual discrimination and early cognitive skills.

🌪️ Sensory processing: The gentle swinging provides calming vestibular input while helping the student stay focused and regulated during the task.

✨ Fine Motor Fun in OT! ✨

Today we used two images: a rainbow and a dinosaur with colour-matching Q-tips to create a playful and fine motor challenge.

A tripod grasp is used to place each Q-tip. This helped strengthen the hand muscles needed for writing, drawing, and dressing. ✍️👐

Benefits include:
💡 Visual–motor integration: Matching colours and placing Q-tips accurately builds eye–hand coordination and precision.
🎨 Visual–perceptual skills: Colour discrimination, spatial awareness, and part-to-whole recognition are all at work as the picture comes to life.
🤝 Social engagement & parallel play: Working side-by-side encourages connection, shared attention, and communication during a fun, low-pressure activity.
🧠 Motor planning & sequencing: Choosing the colour ➜ orienting the Q-tip ➜ placing it in the right spot supports planning, organisation, and problem-solving.

OT activities are designed to look simple and fun; more importantly, they’re designed to build strong hands, improve thinking, and become confident learners. 💛🌟
