// Sydney Surf Lifesavers were honoured to be invited to join other emergency services and Defence Force personnel to line the street at the state funeral of Professor the Honourable Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO, former Governor of NSW.

Her Excellency was the Patron of Surf Life Saving NSW from 2001-13 and was incredibly passionate and supportive of our volunteers. Xanthe, Ashton and Edie, young lifesavers from Coogee SLSC, were great representatives for all NSW lifesavers at this major event.

// Red & Yellow Day is a nationwide celebration on March 4, 2026, to recognise the thousands of Surf Life Saving volunteers who dedicate their time to keeping our beaches safe.

Now it’s our turn to show they can count on us, by simply wearing the colours on Red & Yellow Day. By donating. By fundraising. By signing up at your local club, and flying the same flags we’re taught to swim between. And by staying beach-safe.

In doing so, you’ll help Surf Life Saving turn the tide on coastal drowning. Because when you back the surf lifesavers on Red & Yellow Day, you can help save lives too.

// The backbone of all surf sports events is our incredible officials - young and old, these tireless volunteers ensure that our events are run with a level of expertise that is seen amongst the top sporting events in the world. From our referees to those raking the flags pit, Dad's Army and our watersafety, each of you is such an important part of making our events a spectacular. Here's a special shout out to the 150+ officials that spent three long days on the beach for Country Champs at South West Rocks, in blistering winds.

// Beaches were kept busy with Branch Championship events across the state last weekend and despite having almost half the beach visitation of the previous weekend, our lifesavers continued to do an inspiring job on the sand and in the water. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time over the weekend to keep our communities safe!

// With Country Champs done and won all eyes are now on State Champs in two weeks at Swansea-Belmont SLSC⚡️The pace is picking up and the final entry windows are open across all events.

// Over the weekend we announced that our world-leading drone surveillance program will expand and improve as part of a funding package worth $4.2 million from the NSW Government to help keep people safe at the beach.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Shark Management Program will expand from 50 to 80 locations, with drones flying every day until the end of the April school holidays.

// Beach Passport, in partnership with Qantas, is now available in 7 languages!

It’s vitally important that everyone has access to potentially life saving coastal safety information, and this is a step in that direction.

We’re encouraging people to do the Beach Passport each year. Qantas is offering 150 Qantas Points to Frequent Flyers who complete it before April 30 2026, even if you completed it last season. You will also go into the draw to win 1 million Qantas Points!

// The long weekend delivered one of the biggest numbers of the season, with beaches across NSW packed from early morning through to sunset. Warm weather, holiday crowds and shifting surf conditions kept lifesavers on their toes for three huge days.
