Don’t forget — Stay well👇🏾
As much as we all wish that this pandemic was over, it’s not.
Yes, we are learning to live with this virus.
We’ve wound back most of our restrictions.
We’ve dropped testing requirements for those wanting to enter the country.
The economic recovery has begun. Restaurants are bustling, special events are packed, the footy stadiums are filled with passionate fans and airports are crammed full of eager travellers wanting to reconnect with loved ones and explore new lands.
We are living with COVID. But the threat is not over. We will always be one variant away from more pain.
You may not be aware that in the past month, the COVID hospitalisations and ICU admissions have increased by 100%.
On March 18th, there were 199 people hospitalised in Victorian hospitals. Today, April 18th, there are 431.
Similarly, there were 5 people ventilated in Victorian hospitals a month ago. Today it’s 10.
The Omicron wave hit us hard. We’ve shot to 21st on the global list of total COVID cases reported, but thankfully, due to our early lockdowns and the vaccine rollout, we are 78th on the list of total COVID deaths.
Yes, we’ve gotten vaccinated. We’ve done the heavy lifting. We did everything we were required to do.
But this pandemic is not over. And with influenza rates now on the rise, I’m not looking forward to the coming winter.
So, while we are ‘living’ with COVID, always remember:
💥 If you are unwell, please get tested.
💥 If you are unwell, then even with a negative RAT, please stay home until you are better.
💥 If you are unwell, avoid settings that have vulnerable people, like aged care and disability services and hospitals.
💥 And…..please get your Flu vaccine!
