Here are 10 things to keep in mind if you, or someone you know, has been through a traumatic experience. 💙

1. Recognise that you have been through a distressing or frightening experience and that it is normal that you will have a reaction to it.

2. Accept that you may not feel your normal self for a period of time.

3. Remind yourself daily that you are managing the best you can – try not to get angry or frustrated with yourself if you are not able to do things as well or efficiently as normal.

4. Don’t overuse alcohol or drugs to help you cope.

5. Avoid making major decisions or big life changes until you’re feeling better.

6. Don’t bottle up your feelings – talk to someone who can support and understand you. We’re here for you.

7. Try to keep to your normal routine and stay active and engaged with your life, family and friends.

8. Make time for regular exercise – it helps cleanse your body and mind of tension.

9. Help your family and friends to help you by telling them what you need, such as time out or someone to talk to.

10. Relax as best you can – use relaxation techniques such as yoga, breathing or meditation, or do things you enjoy, such as listening to music, gardening or reading.

It might seem obvious, but learning self-defence empowers you in the ways that go far beyond protecting you from assault.

Self-defence training can:
👉🏽 decrease your fear and anxiety
👉🏽 increase your confidence, sense of self-efficacy and self-esteem
👉🏽 helps you feel stronger and more confident in your body

Women report more comfortable interactions with strangers, acquaintances and intimates, both in situations that seem dangerous and those that do not.
