The standing cable row is a great exercise for building upper back strength while also challenging the muscles that stabilise your trunk.
By performing the movement standing, you’re training your body to resist leaning forward, backward, or twisting side to side — helping improve control, posture, and overall movement quality.
It’s also a useful option for those who may not tolerate bent-over positions for long periods, making it a practical and effective choice in many rehab and performance programs.
As with any exercise, good technique and appropriate loading are key to getting the most benefit.

One of the most overlooked parts of rehabilitation is sleep.

Quality sleep plays a critical role in recovery, it’s when your body repairs tissue, restores energy and adapts to the work you’re doing in rehab. Without enough rest, progress can feel slower and setbacks more likely.

Your exercises matter, but so does what happens outside the clinic. Prioritising sleep supports healing, improves performance, and helps your body get the most out of every session.

Recovery doesn’t stop when you leave the gym — a lot of the real work happens while you sleep.

Don’t wait for pain to take you out of training or slow down your day. Small aches and ni**les are often early signs your body needs support.

Setbacks are a normal part of rehabilitation, not a sign that you’re failing or going backwards.
In fact, setbacks can be valuable learning tools. They help us understand how your body is responding, what loads it can tolerate, and where adjustments need to be made. That information guides smarter decisions about your next steps and shapes a more effective recovery plan.
Rehab isn’t a straight line. It’s a process of learning, adapting, and progressing at the right pace for you.
If you’ve hit a bump along the way, it doesn’t mean stop — it means reassess, refine, and keep moving forward.

Movement plays a critical role in managing pain, especially when it’s done correctly.

With proper assessment and guided rehab, movement can restore function, build strength and improve confidence in your body again. Avoiding movement often does the opposite.

At RTP Physio, we use evidence-based, strength-focused rehab to help you move better and manage pain long term.

Book your initial assessment today — no referral needed.

The Christmas period doesn’t need to be all-or-nothing when it comes to movement.

Busy days, changed routines and a bit of downtime are completely normal, but staying lightly active can make a big difference to how you feel. A short walk, a few mobility exercises, or sticking to a couple of key rehab movements can help maintain momentum and keep your body feeling good.

Consistency doesn’t mean perfection. It means doing what you can, when you can, and picking things back up without guilt.

Keep moving, enjoy the break, and we’ll be ready to help you get back into rhythm in the new year.
