We’re welcoming today’s Victorian Government announcement of funding towards stage 1 of the Bendigo Livestock Exchange (BLE) roof development.

The funding is included in the Victorian Government’s upcoming 2026/2027 Budget.

The BLE is the last of regional Victoria’s four main saleyards to be without a roof, and this has been a long-time advocacy project of the City.

We’re very pleased to secure this investment, which will go towards stage 1 of the roof redevelopment, which will involve constructing a roof over all delivery pens, covering approximately one-third of the yard and with a capacity for 18,000. This area has been prioritised because it’s where livestock spend the most time in this section of the yards.

The City is contributing funding towards this project, and we look forward to partnering with the Victorian Government to deliver stage 1.

📣 Have your say on the future of Albert Roy Reserve!

The City has developed a draft Infrastructure and Service Plan for Eaglehawk’s Albert Roy Recreation Reserve and we’re inviting the community to have their say on the future of the reserve.

The draft plan aims to set out a clear, staged vision for the reserve’s future, with a focus multi-use functionality while respecting the site’s environmental and geotechnical constraints.

Key features of the draft plan include:

• Upgraded female-friendly changerooms
• Two high-quality senior baseball diamonds with lighting
• Cricket and junior soccer pitches
• Three Little League fields
• Combined training nets
• Improved landscaping
• Better pedestrian and cycling access

A new Eaglehawk Women’s Shed is also proposed as part of the site’s future development.

You can review the concept options and complete the online survey until Sunday May 24.

📢 Attention junior sporting club parents, coaches and officials – last chance to apply!

Healthy Sports Rewards aim to offer an alternative to the less healthy food and drink vouchers often presented to junior sporting club participants ⚽🏀

We asked Marong Junior Football Club coach, Daniel Bourke for his thoughts on the program and this is what he told us.

“We’re all about helping kids enjoy their footy while building healthy habits, and the program’s focus on offering healthy reward options is a great way to reinforce positive choices.

“It’s been great seeing the kids become more aware of healthy choices while still having heaps of fun, and linking healthy rewards with the effort they put into their sport has made it even more meaningful for them.

“Jump on board! It’s easy to register, the kids love the healthy rewards, and it’s a great way to recognise their effort while helping build a really positive and supportive club environment.”

Expressions of interest close on Friday May 1.
