Visuals from a PSMA pet scan.
After a positive prostate biopsy has been obtained, the next step in the process is a PSMA (prostate specific membrane antigen) pet scan to determine whether the disease is contained within the prostate only or if it has spread to other parts of the body. Knowing this will determine the path forward and the best treatment options available.
This type of scan can also be used if an MRI result returns with no areas of concern but a patients PSA level continues to increase.
