Our Occupational Therapy team had a fantastic time attending the ATSA Independent Living Expo 2025.
It was a great opportunity to connect with fellow professionals, explore the latest in assistive technology, and gather new insights to bring back to our clients.

Recently, one of our Senior OT’s, Giselle Herskope, supported a client to install a wheelchair accessible kitchen as she was relying on a carer for majority of kitchen tasks.

Funding was used to widen the kitchen opening, build an accessible pantry with pull out drawers and create a wide-open circulation space with slip resistant flooring throughout for her client to use.

With safety being a core focus, an induction cooktop and new Slide & Hide oven and were also installed, this has ensured that her client no longer has to worry about the risk of burning themselves on the oven door.

In addition, accessible drawers under bench height and a lazy Susan in the corner cupboards has given Giselle’s client further independence in the kitchen.

Meet our new Senior Occupational Therapist, Kate Hubert!

Kate brings her bubbly personality and extensive clinical knowledge to Ability Health Solutions, and has been a welcome addition to the team. Having worked in a variety of hospital-based and community settings in both Australia and the UK, Kate is always willing to share her knowledge and skillset.

Kate has extensive Occupational Therapy experience in a wide variety of areas including aged care, NDIS, transition care, dementia, amputee, spinal, orthopedic, general medical, pain management, driving, burns, carer training and cardiac caseloads.
In her spare time, Kate enjoys spending time with her children, taking her crazy dog for energetic walks, and socialising with friends.

Kate is a registered Occupational Therapist (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency – AHPRA) and a member of the Occupational Therapy Australia Association.

Our OTs play a vital role in creating safe environments which empower and motivate their clients, helping them to engage and actively participate in their communities.

We want to thank our wonderful OTs for their dedication to their clients as well as the support they provide to carers, staff and the wider community!

Giselle Herskope, one of our Senior Occupational Therapists, recently assisted her client through the process of getting a new powered wheelchair. This included a thorough assessment, trial and application to the TAC after the client’s current chair kept failing and became irreparable.

After successfully applying for and obtaining funding through the TAC, the chair was delivered and setup together with Giselle, the supplier and her client in June 2023.

Her client is absolutely thrilled to be able to maintain their independence and have safer access to their community.

One of our Senior Occupational Therapists, Daliah, recently assisted her client who has significantly reduced mobility to complete a complex home modification, creating a functional level entry ensuite bathroom.

The modifications included removal of the existing small shower recess, carpeted flooring, and tiled area around the shower. A new glass panel was then installed between the shower and toilet to create an accessible shower and new accessibility features were installed including: a wider level entry shower, slip resistant tiles, handheld shower on a vertical slider and a level tap mixer. The doorway was also widened for wheelchair access, light switches were repositioned as well as grab rails installed to assist with transfers.

By creating a safer, accessible space, our client can now be more independent with self-care.

Last week the Ability Health Solutions Team attended the ATSA Independent Living Expo to explore and learn about new products and services in mobility solutions, pressure care, employment support, accessible recreation, holiday ideas, modified motor vehicles and more.

We look forward to implementing and incorporating some of the new products and services showcased at the expo to improve and enhance our clients' independence! 🙌
