2025 gets the “Quiet achiever” award. No sparkly banners or flashing lights filled with fame or success but I’ve shown up for myself, my family, my clients and colleagues. I’ve ticked some good boxes. Scrolling through the last 12 months of photos has filled me with pride.

Working for yourself while mothering 4 small humans is so joke. I’ve felt the pull in many directions this year, like I’ve never been able to give one person or aspect of life my all. Then I pause and my camera roll says otherwise. I’ve shown up and I’ve done ok. Here’s to continuing with the same energy and attitude into 2026 🧡

Diagnosis… better late than never. In some ways, yes. However at what cost?

Consider:
•Being overwhelmed by your unborn babies movements
•Not having adequate time or space to absorb information during antenatal appointments, the rapport to ask questions or for written information
•Physical and emotional distress with a lack of control in labour
•The pressure to process information and make decisions quickly in labour
•Focussing on tracking, learning or perfecting the “should’s” of motherhood to gather some control, consistency and understanding
•Finding the lack of routine or inability to be spontaneous with a baby hard
•The sensory overload of touch, sound and smell with a newborn yet feeling the pressure of the social narrative to “soak it all up” make it feel like you are failing as a mum

This is just some of the ways that neurodivergence can show up for some women. If you can anticipate that and plan for it, amazing! But if you were unaware and these things showed up for you, it can bring about enormous challenges, isolation and a profound sense of inadequacy.

I’m grateful to have had a postpartum journey fully aware of my neurodivergence. As a midwife, I had access to knowledge and continuity to support me and many of these challenges were minimised. However if I wasn’t, I can’t imagine the grief points of feeling like something was wrong with my brain, my body or both.

Looking at these photos is still wild to me! Releasing a frenulum isn’t just about the tongue tip, but about the body of the tongue. Go to the second slide and zoom in on the 4 week after photo… you can see just how much lift is in the body of my tongue, not just tip!

I’m 3 months post release and still haven’t licked an ice cream (breastfeeding through food allergy life 😅) but at least I know I can!

I’d see a scenario like this play out at least once a month, if not more. It’s not unique but it’s one I find the most gut wrenching because I know it was possible to prevent it in many cases. It’s also one I see time and time again on Facebook support groups.

In my experience, I rarely see this with women who have had an antenatal breastfeeding consultation, early professional breastfeeding support (usually in the first 2 weeks) and continuity of care postpartum with someone skilled to assess, manage or refer on quickly.

I’d also like to mention that in the absence of mums own milk, donor milk is the next best option. I haven’t kept up specifically chosen to talk about formula in this instance because unfortunately many mums aren’t aware donor milk is an option, and there isn’t necessarily the same fearfulness towards it as there can be with formula.

If this scenario hits home for you, go gently with yourself. I share this so that more mothers can be educated and aware. I formed consent is considering the benefits and risks of all options. Formula has its risks, absolutely. But exclusively breastfeeding purely based on the risks of formula, without considering its benefits, has its risks too.

I’m never here to judge, lay blame, impose guilt. This is a safe space, but equally one where I want to discuss issues and aspects of care that often go undiscussed.

Our understanding of neurodivergence among women is growing, but it remains underdone in the postpartum space and more specifically, how neurodivergence and breastfeeding interact together.

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good survey, rabbit hole down a niche topic and the lived experience. I have my own experience navigating AuDHD while breastfeeding, and breastfeeding while living in an AuDHD brain, but that’s only my experience.

My goal for 2026 is to be able to make the most inclusive and supportive resource for ND women and practitioners to access and use to better understand what it’s like navigating this integral part of early motherhood with a different brain.

If this is you, I’d be enormously grateful if you’d consider completing the survey above. If you have any questions, please drop them below or send me a DM if you feel more comfortable.

We’re in this together 🧡

Our ni**le measuring tool has been downloaded by THOUSANDS of women (pinch me!) over the last 3 and a bit years, but it was time for a glow up and a refinement of advice.

Originally created because there was such little support for pumping mums in Australia and I was on a mission to change that. I felt like salmon swimming upstream (and still do some days), this simple little tool has connected me with so many of you. Some have become clients, most have simply found their way to my page or website and learnt from me.

Things change though! So the 2.0 edition is live and free to use. It features…
✨ 10-22mm sizing
✨Triple S sizing guidelines
✨Links to ways we can support you further

If you support women in the postpartum period and have this saved or printed, I encourage you to refresh your resources and use this one so that your advice is up to date.

Here’s to thousands more downloads!

Some people have asked over the years if I’m honest wth clients in the same way I am with friends…

As health professionals, we are taught and expected to separate ourselves from our work and clients. I try to do that, but I am also a 30-something year old mum in the same season you are in. I understand the depths of these trenches! I will also never gate keep information. Clients come to me for holistic assessment and support. They don’t just want another management plan. They are drowning in them! They want answers, cause and effect, a “why”, a “how”, an honest picture of risks and benefits.

I am truly so grateful to have the most amazing clients who trust me and pour their time, energy and devotion into caring for their babies, themselves and their feeding journeys. They always have and always will receive care that is at the same level of best friend energy honesty, like an extension of family. The respect goes both ways, deeply 🧡

On the list of things that make my blood boil is all the misinformation sprouted about how to manage “blocked ducts” (proper name- ductal narrowing) or mastitis.

I’ve seen some truly horrific consequences of what started out so minor, but was managed SO poorly!

Don’t clear it. There is nothing to clear. Rather… calm it!
Think cold packs, lymphatic massage, anti-inflammatory medication or homeopathics, rhythmic feeding in response to your baby.
