CARMELLA sang as a soloist in the Latin Church choir from the age of 7. Surrounded by sacred music from an early age – her Grandfather who chanted in Aramaic, taught her beautiful chants as a young child. These early years soaking up sacred music planted the seed that would continue to grow throughout her life. Having an intensive career as a singer on the pop charts in the early nineties, Carmella opened for artists as diverse as the likes of Eartha Kitt, Daryl Braithwaite and Jenny Morris.

‘A soaring celebration of contemporary world Music’ – Who Weekly

DISSATISFIED with the machinations of the pop music industry, Carmella digressed to the study of classical singing, and with a promising career as a classical singer, she fell deeply in love with plainsong, renaissance, European art song and Church Music, it was here that she truly discovered the purity of music and this study continued for 10 years. All the while, her deep and committed spiritual practice of meditation and yoga maintained her soul AND her singing voice . . . after completing her studies Carmella dived into world music from Celtic to African and Kowali and from there her yoga and music worlds merged, this time through the practise of bhakti, call and response chanting in Sanskrit. Initiated into the Vaishnava line, this practise is the divine medicine , or the Yuga Dharma for our age. Carmella has for the past 20 years travelled the world , particularly visiting China's bustling yoga scene for the past decade, singing and facilitating singing groups, sound meditation workshops, kirtans and sacred music choirs. Passionate about the use of group singing as a healing force, as a vehicle for transformation, and as a link to the Divine. She works to combine yogic philosophy, creation spirituality wisdom, movement and meditation with liberating vocal techniques, to assist people of all walks of life to access their true powerful, beautiful and Divine voice.

We’ve had some really cool times on World Yoga Day.
Always falling with the Winter Solstice, there’s a good feeling in the air. It was a buzz chanting at the Sydney Opera House, with hundreds of yoga enthusiasts, watching politicians attempting postures, introducing them to mantra in the hallowed halls of NSW Parliament House, Bondi Beach, Indo-China yoga festivals, somewhere close to the Tibetan border. Probably the most moving -yoga on country coming together with some extraordinary First Nations yogis on magical Yuin land.
Happy World Yoga Day! Dandavat Pranams to Bharat - to mother India - the jewel of the universe . Land and peoples of mystical proportion, older than time and worthy of honour!!!

Happy Heavenly birthday our beautiful brother. The first one ever without you . Tears are flowing all round today . We miss your gentility , your kindness, your curious humour, your beautiful chattiness, your thoughtful wisdom. Your cultural commentary . God I miss that. But most of all I miss your big bear hugs that made everything in the world feel ok for a little minute . What I would give for one more. We love you eternally darling

“The Winter Solstice is the longest and darkest night of the year. We are conditioned to be afraid of the dark and things unseen, however it is from within the darkness that the seed is awoken and nurtured. This Seed holds the power, light and magic of magnificent creative potential.”
Karen Oakley, Pathway of the Priestess 13 Moon Journal

The Winter Solstice for Australia, occurs when the South Pole reaches its maximum tilt away from the sun, thus creating the longest night. From here on in, the light returns and the nights gradually get shorter till we reach the Summer Solstice in December.

Nature provides such a beautiful process for us: - to go within at the point of the longest night. As we focus on our inner light we can nurture this and breathe it into greater strength and illumination.

What are you yearning to illuminate at this time in your life? What are the seeds that you can nurture to fruition?

Join with four experienced practitioners - each offering unique gifts. We will journey together over two and a half hours through meditation, movement, sound healing and creative expression to breathe into being this great inner light.

‘And then the singing enveloped me. It was furry and resonant, coming from everyone’s very heart. There was no sense of performance or judgement, only that the music was breath and food.’
Anne Lamott.

900 voices are still flowing in and out of memory -one week on.
What a total buzz singing with Chorus Oz and the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.
