Sepsis is the leading cause of harm in children worldwide and is especially dangerous to those under five years of age.

Sepsis can be treated if caught early. Early treatment saves lives.

Almost any infection can lead to sepsis, for example a simple cut, urinary tract infection (UTI), or a more serious infection like pneumonia. It can develop very quickly, even if you’re already taking antibiotics.

Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor or hospital health professional: 'Could it be sepsis?'

Trust your instincts – if something feels seriously wrong, don’t wait, speak up.
Sepsis is life threatening and needs immediate treatment.

Call Triple Zero (000) or go to your nearest emergency department if:
• your baby is under 3 months and has a fever (>38 degrees Celsius) or your child is seriously unwell and getting worse
• you have already seen a doctor, but your child is still sick and not getting better.

While Parkinson's is widely known for motor symptoms such as tremor or poor balance, what happens beneath the surface can be just as significant.

Parkinson’s disease occurs when the brain stops producing enough dopamine - the chemical responsible for controlling movement, balance, automatic functions of the body and mood.

Many of its lesser-known symptoms are ones you simply can't see, including sleep disturbances like acting out dreams and sleep talking, persistent fatigue and a slowing of thoughts.

Around half of all people with Parkinson's also experience anxiety and depression. This can often include apathy, a loss of interest in people and activities caused by low dopamine.

Letting family and friends know these are recognised symptoms can make a real difference.

If you or someone you love needs support, call the Hospital Research Foundation - Parkinson’s info line on 1800 122 322 for counselling, information, and guidance.

A free 1:1 nursing service is also available to provide information of how to manage symptoms and connect with community supports.

🎉CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN!

The Riverland Aboriginal Health Service recently partnered with Berri Regional Secondary College to celebrate a special milestone for our new Transport Officer, Kevin Sutton.

Kevin recently completed Year 12 – a huge achievement worth celebrating – but he couldn’t attend his school graduation, so Berri Secondary Regional College and the Riverland Aboriginal Health Service team hosted a special morning tea with his family and community.

Team Leader, Darryle Barnes, said he is passionate about celebrating and supporting his community.

“We were extremely proud to support Kevin on this important day and to partner with Berri Secondary College in recognising his hard work and dedication,” he said.

“Thank you to everyone who made the day possible, and for believing that every young person deserves to have their achievements recognised.”

We’re pleased to share that the RAP Clinic is expanding!

Children and teenagers at the Clontarf Foundation, Rivergum Christian College, Glossop Community School and BERRI Primary School can now access free healthcare consultations with a local doctor at school 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

This is in addition to the current service which is available to children and teenagers at Renmark High School - Official, RENMARK PRIMARY SCHOOL-OFFICIAL, Renmark North Primary School - Official, Renmark West Primary School.

The RAP Clinic (Rapid Assessment Paediatric Clinic) is run by the Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network’s (RMCLHN) Riverland Academy of Clinical Excellence (RACE) in collaboration with Renmark Medical Clinic (RMC) and the local schools.

Through the clinic, a doctor called a Trainee Medical Officer (TMO) will be on-site at each school to provide a healthcare consultation to students of all ages. During the consultation, children and teenagers can discuss any healthcare concerns that they would visit a General Practitioner to discuss. For example, concerns about their mental health, healthy diet and exercise.

👪 Parents and guardians are required to be present during these consultations at school.

👉 If required, the TMO will refer students to the Renmark Medical Clinic for a bulk-billed consultation with a GP during dedicated hours each afternoon.

ℹ For more information, chat to your School Principal, visit bit.ly/RAPClinic, or contact the Renmark Medical Clinic on (08) 8586 4111.
