Animal Assisted Therapy sessions offer participants opportunities to develop skills in awareness, empathy, assertiveness and leadership. The True Colours program uses animals (mostly horses) to offer a ‘safe challenge’ for people to be in relationship and to explore feelings, behaviours and patterns in a safe but challenging new way. OK - we just topped 250mm of rain since late Monday night. A few trees & branches down, paddocks flooded. But at least we have the chickens and horses Snorkeled up this time!! 😳

Yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful Tilly.

Such a beautiful dog with a beautiful soul.
Tilly was part of our family as we moved to Berry, and soon became “my farm dog” … we both had fun pretending we knew how to behave in our new surroundings! 🥲

As she grew from a little, wide eyed ball of fur, her beautiful soul became evident.

As a Therapy Dog, she became part of Sarah’s journey into Animal Assisted Therapy - helping children with after school care, sitting with them, calming them down while they did their homework. Tilly made hospital visits with Sarah to brighten the lives of all she visited there. When participants come to sessions here at True Colours, they all want to spend time with her.

A few years back she became a big “sister” to Daisey, and she loved it! Tilly seemed to get a new lease on life, frolicking out back yard with Daisey most days, showing her where to dig in my veggie garden and how to ‘talk’ to our chickens!!

That little ball of fur somehow captured my heart, despite just being “just my farm dog”.
She captured my heart BIG time … she captured all our hearts.

And now our hearts are broken.

Tilly … we love you, we miss you.

Hello to all my NDIS participants and future participants.

Just an update with the recent changes to NDIS and no longer funding animal therapies. This does NOT impact True Colours. As an Accredited Social Worker, with AASW registration, I adhere to the standards of care and ethics outlined by AASW and meet the rigorous Professional Developments and Supervision requirements for continued registration.

Many different modalities of therapy are utilised during our sessions as we work towards identified personal and NDIS goals. Our work can be room based therapy however, I always encourage working out doors in the presence of horses. We get the beautiful calming effect of horses and being in nature is part of the therapy process too.

So I hope this clarifies what is happening and if things change I will let you know.

Our Story

TC-AAT is Registered Provider with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and provides a new and innovative approach to counselling and therapy that supports clients of all ages in addressing therapeutic goals.

This therapy helps clients with difficulties such as overcoming depression, to heal past trauma, anxiety, loss of a loved one, personal growth and development. Participants have an opportunity to interact with the horses which can assist them to learn about themselves, their relationship styles and the patterns of behaviours in their lives.
