"Professor Ton Tran did not arrive in Australia with a defined ambition to become a surgeon. Born in Vietnam during a period marked by war, he later migrated to Melbourne, where he settled in the southeast. The transition, he recalls, was shaped more by adaptation than certainty. Raised in an Asian household, education was viewed as an obligation rather than an aspiration. He had no initial interest in medicine. It was his academic results at Melbourne High School that led him into medicine at the University of Melbourne.....
Today, Professor Tran is a senior orthopaedic surgeon at St John of God Berwick Hospital, and holds academic and leadership roles at Monash University and Monash Health. His work spans clinical surgery, teaching, and medical innovation, including contributions to robotic-assisted surgical techniques."
