Heatwave safety for pets and wildlife
Extreme heat can be life-threatening for animals. A few simple steps can make a big difference.
For pets:
• Access to fresh water at all times
• Stay indoors during peak heat
• No hot-pavement walks
• Never leave pets in cars
• Watch for heat stress (panting, drooling, vomiting, lethargy)
For wildlife:
• Leave shallow water bowls in shade
• Don’t handle unless necessary
• Call a wildlife rescue if an animal is distressed
If you’re concerned about your pet, contact your nearest vet clinic as soon as possible. Heat stress is an emergency.
