As the age old adage goes, practice makes perfect, and so many of us have a whole lifetime of practice at hating our bodies. At picking them apart, wishing them different, analysing every perceived flaw, at saying unkind things about ourselves, at calling ourselves names. Self hate becomes a daily practice, and it’s almost expected of women - a confident woman is labeled as ‘stuck up’ or ‘full of herself’.
This rhetoric has to change. Nothing good ever happens from a place of hate. The only way to make change, to live the life you want to live, to live in a body that feels like your own is to practice loving it - right now, as it is, as you are, to accept every little bit of it, and move through your life with acts of love. Self love is an intentional and practiced act, and most of us are poor at it.
Exercise is self love, intentional movement is self love, eating foods that make you feel good and nourish your body is self love, doing things that bring you joy is self love.
Stop being so f*cking mean to yourself.
