Varroa destructor has now been confirmed in multiple locations across Queensland, including the Lockyer Valley, Gold Coast & Brisbane.

👉 Beekeepers: It’s critical to check your hives!
✅ Do an alcohol wash and uncap drone brood (if present).
✅ Report results via the Bee 123 Form – even if no mites are found!

🛑 Monthly monitoring is essential to slow the spread.

🐝 Practising hive hygiene & decontamination
🐝 Using barrier systems & surveillance maps
🐝 Following your general biosecurity obligation

It was great to talk and have dinner with you at the NSW conference Peter. We appreciate your support to the Australian manuka industry.

We got to welcome the esteemed Manuka honey scientist and long time friend Peter Brooks to our honey shed last week. Great to see the Australian Manuka honey industry Brains Trust together again. Michael Howes our Founder with Peter, they have worked together for many years developing the Australian Manuka honey industry to the benefit of everyone who appreciates Australian Manuka honey.

We also welcomed for the first time Dr Assma Boufridi who is the new Director for Honey Lab from the University of the Sunshine Coast.

❗Varroa mite (Varroa destructor) was detected for the first time in Queensland. ❗

To slow the spread of the pest, beekeepers should take action now by:
✅ monitoring your hives for mites monthly
✅ reporting all hive check results via the Bee 123 form
✅ decontaminating equipment between apiaries
✅ stay informed on movement restrictions
