Whether you're working at a desk or scrolling on your phone, posture plays a key role in joint health and long-term mobility.

At Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group, supporting posture-related injuries is part of what we do. The good news? Small changes can make a big difference.

👉 Sit tall, with your feet flat
👉 Take breaks every 30 minutes to stretch
👉 Support your core and upper back with consistent strength-building exercises
👉 Don’t ignore persistent aches

If you’re feeling the strain, our orthopaedic team can assess, treat, and help prevent posture-related issues.

A big thank you to all the local GPs who joined us for our June GP Education Event, held in the stunning Spirit House in Yandina.

This special evening was an opportunity for rich clinical discussion and collaboration, with presentations from our surgical team:
🔹 A/Prof Daevyd Rodda
🔹 Dr Joe Coory
🔹 Dr David Brooks

Our presenters shared the latest insights in their respective specialities, followed by a Q&A session where GPs were able to ask questions and connect with our team.

Events like these strengthen the link between primary and specialist care, ensuring better outcomes for our Sunshine Coast community.

We look forward to hosting future sessions!

Stretch with purpose so you can move with strength 💪

The journey to joint health can be supported by targeted stretches and movements.

If you're recovering from shoulder surgery, consider trying this simple Standing Shoulder Stretch:
1️⃣ Clasp your hands behind your back
2️⃣ Slowly straighten your arms, then gently lift your hands upward to feel a light stretch
3️⃣ Gently lift your hands up and down, repeating this movement for 1 minute

🔔 Remember: Always check with your physiotherapist before adding new stretches to your routine.

When it comes to your health, early intervention is key and it's incredibly important to listen to your body.

If you suspect you have joint issues, here are a few signs it might be time to seek advice from a specialist:

😣 Pain that won’t go away – especially if it lasts more than a few weeks
🦵Stiffness or limited range of motion – making daily activities harder
🦴 Swelling, clicking, or instability in the joint
🏃 Activity avoidance – when pain stops you from doing what you love

You don’t need to “tough it out". A specialist can help you find relief, explore treatment options, and get you back to moving with confidence.

Low-impact and great for mobility - consider trying yoga for your joint health!

Yoga is a powerful movement practice that can support joint function and enhance your overall wellbeing.

Through slow, controlled movements and mindful breathing, yoga can:
✔️ Support joint range of motion
✔️ Strengthen supporting muscles
✔️ Reduce stiffness and tension in joints

As always, make sure you check in with your physiotherapist or health care practitioner before starting a new exercise regimen.

Recovering from arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery? Gentle movement is key to restoring mobility, easing stiffness, and promoting healing.

One simple stretch that can help is the Pendulum Shoulder Stretch – here’s how:
1️⃣ Lean forward against a wall and support yourself with your unaffected arm.
2️⃣ Allow your affected arm to gently hang down.
3️⃣ Swing your affected arm in small, slow circles for about 1 minute, gradually increasing the size of the circle as tolerated.
4️⃣ Reverse the direction of your circles and repeat for 1 minute.

This motion can help gently stretch the shoulder and loosen the joint.

‼️ Remember: Always check with your physiotherapist before adding any new movements or stretches to your routine.

As we welcome the cooler months, don't let your joints slow you down!

Winter is upon us and cold weather can be tough on joints – especially for those with arthritis or other musculoskeletal conditions.

Lower temperatures can reduce blood flow to joints, leading to increased stiffness, reduced mobility and sometimes more noticeable joint pain.

Here are a few easy ways to protect your joints this winter:
✅ Keep moving – Low-impact exercises like walking, swimming and yoga can help maintain strength and mobility in your joints
✅ Layer up – Keep your joints warm to reduce discomfort, especially your knees and hips
✅ Eat smart – Anti-inflammatory foods like berries, leafy greens and turmeric can support joint health
✅ Listen to your body – Rest when needed and don't ignore persistent pain

Remember, we're just a call a way for personalised, professional advice to help you care for your joints.
