* Sunshine Coast University Hospital
* Nambour General Hospital
* Caloundra Health Service
* Gympie Hospital
* Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital

and a comprehensive range of sub-acute, ambulatory and extended care, community health, mental health and oral health services, and aged care services at the Glenbrook Residential Aged Care Facility. Q: What's our pharmacies' secret weapon in keeping everything running smoothly?

A: Our amazing Clinical Assistants 🙌

Behind the scenes at our pharmacy departments, you'll find a busy team of Clinical Assistants supporting pharmacists, dispensing medications, managing medication stocks throughout the hospital and keeping everything running like clockwork.

It's World Pharmacy Technician Day (in our health service they're known as Clinical Assistants) and we're saying a huge thank you to our teams 👏

🌟 Say hello to this week’s human of health – Gabriela! 💖

Gaby is a Senior Advisor in Workplace Rehabilitation within our Safety & Wellbeing team. She leads a passionate team of professionals who are known for their empathy, expertise, and unwavering support for staff navigating workplace injuries and recovery.

Gaby also works closely with employees facing complex health challenges and provides expert guidance to leaders across our organisation on best-practice injury management. She’s a trusted voice, a compassionate listener, and a fierce advocate for wellbeing at work.

“I am most proud of the positive relationships I have developed with many members of our organisation. I feel privileged to work alongside incredibly intelligent and passionate colleagues and to contribute to a workplace where people feel supported and valued,” Gaby shared.

“I aim to bring the best possible positive attitude to the workplace and contribute to an environment people look forward to coming into.”

That positivity has also gained her the unofficial title of ‘office Adele’ thanks to her love of singing (she guarantees to provide enthusiastic vocals that may not always be in tune). 🎤🎵

And with just 9 Fridays until Christmas, Gaby is already cooking up her legendary elf antics! Known across Nambour Hospital for spreading festive cheer, she may or may not have a very special birthday on December 25… 🎄

We can’t wait to see what holiday magic you bring this year, Gaby!

🩺 What’s an anaesthetist? (Say it with us: an-ees-the-tist)

They’re the calm legends behind the scenes who make sure you’re comfy, safe, and pain-free during procedures, from quick fixes to major surgeries. These highly trained medical professionals tailor every anaesthetic to suit each patient, because no two bodies (or procedures) are the same!

There are three main types of anaesthesia:
1️⃣Sedation - You’re relaxed, sleepy, and might not remember a thing.
2️⃣Regional - Just the area being treated is numbed.
3️⃣General - You’re fully unconscious and totally unaware.

🎉 Today is National Anaesthesia Day, celebrating the incredible work of anaesthetists and marking the first public use of ether anaesthesia way back in 1846. That’s nearly 180 years of keeping us pain-free!

So, here’s to the quiet heroes who help us snooze through surgery and wake up feeling better. 💙

It’s Mental Health Week, so it’s only fitting we shine our Human of Health spotlight on one of our incredible mental health team members: meet Peer Worker Lisa. 💙

Lisa works in the Crisis Support Space at SCUH, a dedicated area for people presenting to the Emergency Department during a mental health crisis. It allows people to receive care away from the hustle and bustle of the ED, in a calm and therapeutic environment.

Her role is all about supporting people to find hope, voice and connection when they need it most.

“I support individuals to make their own choices, find safety, connect with their strengths, and explore what recovery and wellbeing mean to them. Collaboration with clinicians and community organisations is also an important part of ensuring people are supported holistically.”

Lisa focuses on being present, compassionate and real, offering hope through shared humanity.

“I love seeing moments of empowerment – when someone realises their story matters and that recovery is possible. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a team and service that values lived experience as essential to healing and change.”

Lisa’s passion for her work comes from a deeply personal place.

“My own journey through mental health challenges showed me the power of empathy, understanding and genuine human connection. Becoming a peer worker felt like a way to transform those experiences into purpose – to give back and help create spaces of safety and acceptance for others.”

In the spirit of this year’s Mental Health Week theme of connection, Lisa recharges by spending time with loved ones and being by the ocean 🌊

🚨 Making EDs safer for kids 🚨

Congratulations to Paediatric Emergency Physician Dr Scott Schofield, whose ChildSAFE project has received an Emergency Medicine Foundation grant, with support from Clinical Excellence Queensland’s Healthcare Improvement Unit. 👏

ChildSAFE is working to co-design a digital child safety screening tool for Australian Emergency Departments, helping teams spot, document, and manage child safety concerns earlier, more effectively, and in ways that are culturally safe and clinically relevant.

“Managing child safety concerns in busy EDs can be challenging,” Dr Schofield says.

“With the right digital tools, we can better support clinicians – and protect children.”

The first phase is all about listening: gathering perspectives from clinicians, families, and diverse communities, including Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse groups. Because early detection can change lives.

✨ This project has been years in the making, and with EMF + HIU support, it’s set to make every ED visit a safer one for children.

• Woolworths West Village on Saturday 20 September between 1:00pm and 2:00pm.

• Yiayia’s Pantry Toowong on Saturday 20 September between 11:30am and 12:45pm.

• Uroko Sushi (Everton Park Plaza) on Friday 19 September between 7:15pm and 8:45pm.

Queensland Health recommends vaccination as the best way to prevent measles, and two vaccine doses provides the best protection.

The measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is safe, effective and free for children at 12 and 18 months of age, or earlier if they are travelling overseas.

It is also free in QLD for anyone born during or since 1966 who hasn't already had two doses.

People who are unsure of whether they have had two doses should get a vaccine, as additional doses are safe.

The MMR vaccine is freely available at General Practices and some pharmacies; however, some practices may charge a consultation fee.

For more information about measles please visit: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/condition/infections-and-parasites/viral-infections/measles
