Quiet Mind Meditation

Quiet Mind Meditation Sarah is a meditation teacher based in Melbourne (Australia) and Founder of Quiet Mind Meditation (2009) and The Meditation Box (2022) Life is busy. And noisy.

After a long and challenging corporate career that came to a crossroad following the Global Financial Crisis .. Sarah took herself off to a meditation retreat and realised it was time to share her passion for meditation (her secret weapon in life) through Quiet Mind Meditation. Having meditated for more than 20+ years, Sarah is well aware of the challenges that life can present, and is eternally g

rateful that she learnt to meditate as a teenager .. and continued to meditate through all the ups and downs and meanderings. We are constantly bombarded with information .. words, thoughts, sights, sounds, smells .. that cause us to live in a state of perpetual edginess with no time to processes everything. But when we live on 'fast-forward' we miss the moments we have right now, and this can leave us with a residue of something missing. We disconnect from life and our sense of self. The ability to be both extremely relaxed physically and mentally, while remaining alert and awake, is one way to describe the meditative state. Research clearly shows that a regular meditation practice teaches us how to self manage our stress, which positively influences our inner biochemistry; improving our physical and emotional health, providing more restful sleep and improved energy levels alongside increased ability to cultivate positive emotions and a deeper understanding of who we are in our quietest moments.

Had to post … as a sweet reminder of the beauty and wonder that surrounds me.

You can’t get better than this!

If I could bottle … the crisp early morning air, the perfect and endless Aussie blue sky, the lapping water on shell crusted sand, a few lovely humans who always sat, ‘hi, what a special morning’ (or variations of), dogs happily chasing each other or the local seagulls .. and a day of self directed plans/no plans.

Breathing it all in.

Giving thanks.

Sharing the love 🌴🐬🏖️

May there be many days
rich, like this
and memories that
linger forever ….

Qigong Teacher Training | Week Two ✨

This week we began exploring the Shi Ba Shi Taiji Qigong system.

A flowing sequence of 18 forms, that I saw described as a “gateway practice” into the deeper internal arts.

Shi Ba Shi is the integration of breath, body, and awareness into one continuous experience - movement that doesn’t interrupt stillness, but reveals it.

Which is why it pairs so beautifully with meditation.

It offers us:
• A physical entry point into stillness (mindful movement)
• A way to feel calm, not just think about it
• A bridge from doing to being.

And over time, the effects will become something you can truly feel: breath becomes easier and more open, movement more fluid, posture naturally aligns, and our nervous system begins to settle into a steadier, more calm-alert state.

There is also a beautiful quiet clarity that begins to emerge … not from effort, but from repetition and presence.

This is where the real practice begins .. and I am trying my best to do my practice each morning - which did not quite happen this week - but my intention is to do this sequence every day. 🌸

We started our Qigong Teacher Training on Monday, in the simplest, most gracious way…
… with The Bow.

And I felt immediately - a full circle moment home.

Such a small gesture … and yet it asks us …

To pause. To let go of the outside world. To place the mind back where it belongs. To arrive - fully - into the moment.

Years ago, someone told me there was a sense of grace in the way I bowed at the end of our meditation class.

I remember being surprised because it was just a part of my practice … a quiet ‘thank you.’

To Bow in the Buddhist or Qigong way (the two forms that I’ve practiced) … is not just respect - it’s a pause, a softening into presence, and an acknowledgement of the path … the teachers … and the moment we’re living.

Not something we do…but something we enter into.

And maybe… something we’ve quietly forgotten.

I bow to you.

6:30am Wednesday - meditation conundrum.

Autumn mornings have changed this past week … it’s really cold!

… the kind of mornings that whispers to ‘stay under the doona a little longer’.

But, my meditation cushion sits across the room … so, it’s the first thing I see when I open my eyes!

This morning, I paused.
I consider staying in bed.

But I know … my day will carry a completely different flavour if I meditate.

A quiet steadiness.
A softer heart.
A deeper sense of calm, resilience… and gratitude.

So - of course I got up.

Did you? 🍂

🌸 must also share my very current favourite chant .. ‘Aigiri Nandini’ by Lucy Rain.

A beautiful adaptation of a very traditional hymn often chanted to destroy fears and overcome obstacles.

I heard this late last night … and it has been echoing in my mind all day. 🙏🏼

Meditation your nervous system already understands … could be:

~ Listening to birdsong
~ Feeling your feet on the ground
~ Noticing your breath
~ Moving slowly through Qigong or gentle movement
~ Watching light shift

There really isn’t just one way to meditate.

And there isn’t one “right” way for everyone.

That’s why I created the Exploring Meditation 40-day course, based on my own 30+ years of personal practice and more than 15 years teaching others this ‘life skill’.

+ Each day you’ll receive a short email and a guided practice.

+ Different styles. Different entry points.

So YOU can actually discover what works for your mind and body.

You can start now.

And build a consistent practice without forcing it.

Because there are many ways up the mountain … and the point is simply to START.

There’s a Qigong saying I wrote in my journal:

“When the intent (yi) arrives, the qi arrives.’

This comes from a book I bought over ten years ago, ‘The Way of Qigong’ by Kenneth S Cohen.

I’ve always been fascinated with Qigong (for a long time), and kept an eye open for a teacher, but never forced it.

The intention however has always been there in the background while I got on with things … teaching meditation, keeping up my own practice, attending classes when I could find them.

It certainly hasn’t been consistent or perfectly mapped out … just something I kept coming back to.

This year, though, I made a bit of a shift. My intention for 2026 is “GO” … to stop waiting for the perfect moment and actually lean into the things that are calling me, even if it feels like a stretch.

And now, here I am … about to start a 200-hour Qigong training.

It feels exciting, a little bit big, and also strangely comforting … I’m excited to be a student, to face the challenge of consistency, and expand my understanding. Feels like something that’s been building quietly for a while.

Funny how intention works like that. ✨

I’ve just opened my first study guide .. before my first live class on Monday.

‘Excited’ is an understatement 💥

This has been on my vision board for at least three years … and here we are.

The simplest and maybe most insightful way to start learning about, and experiencing some of the benefits of meditation, is with Meditative Exercises.

+ short - often only a few minutes
+ practical - nothing too woo-woo
+ efficient - releases stress quickly
+ effective - once you know .. you know!

+ and so powerful 💥

When introducing people to meditation, I have found these exercises to be the most beautiful way to share some of the powerful benefits of regular meditation.

You will walk away with FOUR incredible exercises in your life toolbox - so you can release rising stress and calm your nervous system - in the moment, or whenever you wish or need to.

The Meditative Exercises course is ONE exercise per week, for 4-weeks. With a bonus week where I share how you combine your favourites into a deeper practice!

Start now.

Our April meditation inside The Quiet Pause is …

‘Softening, Stilling, Letting Go’

A practice that reflects the season of Autumn and the landscape we are seeing around us. 🍂

If you missed our email this morning - with the guide meditation (audio) and introduction to our April practice - you can DM me and I will send it to you (and sign you up so you get future emails.)

Our first doorway in this meditation is to SOFTEN.

I’ve noticed that many people respond more easily to the invitation to “soften from the inside” - than the more familiar instruction to “let go” of tension.

You may have noticed yourself that some of our holding patterns are not so easily “released” on command. They are subtle, habitual, and almost invisible in their familiarity.

So, in those earlier moments of meditation (especially), “let go” can feel like something we either succeed at or fail at - which doesn’t really belong in meditation at all.

Softening feels different.

Not a task to complete, but an invitation to gently lean toward.
Not something you get right or wrong, but something you can always, always meet again in this moment.

And perhaps most importantly … even the smallest softening is real.

It is felt. It is enough.

✨Starts tomorrow - first Sunday of each month, The Quiet Pause.✨

This month we are gently exploring ‘Softening, Settling, Letting Go’ - a meditation practice inspired by the quiet wisdom of autumn.

As the leaves fall and nature releases what is no longer needed, we are invited to do the same; to soften effort, settle inward, and create space for what comes next.

Join me for a guided meditation and a month of gentle reflections to support your practice.

If you’ve been longing for a deeper pause, this is your invitation.

Subscribe (free) 🔗 link in bio to join.

📿 One practice. One focus. One month.
