Quiet Mind Meditation

Quiet Mind Meditation Sarah is a meditation teacher based in Melbourne (Australia) and Founder of Quiet Mind Meditation (2009) and The Meditation Box (2022) Life is busy. And noisy.

After a long and challenging corporate career that came to a crossroad following the Global Financial Crisis .. Sarah took herself off to a meditation retreat and realised it was time to share her passion for meditation (her secret weapon in life) through Quiet Mind Meditation. Having meditated for more than 20+ years, Sarah is well aware of the challenges that life can present, and is eternally g

rateful that she learnt to meditate as a teenager .. and continued to meditate through all the ups and downs and meanderings. We are constantly bombarded with information .. words, thoughts, sights, sounds, smells .. that cause us to live in a state of perpetual edginess with no time to processes everything. But when we live on 'fast-forward' we miss the moments we have right now, and this can leave us with a residue of something missing. We disconnect from life and our sense of self. The ability to be both extremely relaxed physically and mentally, while remaining alert and awake, is one way to describe the meditative state. Research clearly shows that a regular meditation practice teaches us how to self manage our stress, which positively influences our inner biochemistry; improving our physical and emotional health, providing more restful sleep and improved energy levels alongside increased ability to cultivate positive emotions and a deeper understanding of who we are in our quietest moments.

Happy 90th Birthday to the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso the highest spiritual leader and head of Tibetan Buddhism.

A lifelong seeker of wisdom and a beacon of peace, compassion, and kindness.

May his teachings on human ethics, grounded in Buddhist philosophy and centred on nonviolence, mindfulness, universal responsibility, and the deep interconnectedness of all beings … continue to inspire millions around the world.

I am eternally grateful to have attended his teachings and been in His Holiness’s presence … a constant source of inspiration since my teenage years.

90th Birthday Message

On the occasion of my 90th birthday, I understand that well-wishers and friends in many places, including Tibetan communities, are gathering for celebrations. I particularly appreciate the fact that many of you are using the occasion to engage in initiatives that highlight the importance of compassion, warm-heartedness, and altruism.

I am just a simple Buddhist monk; I don’t normally engage in birthday celebrations. However, since you are organizing events focused on my birthday I wish to share some thoughts.

While it is important to work for material development, it is vital to focus on achieving peace of mind through cultivating a good heart and by being compassionate, not just toward near and dear ones, but toward everyone. Through this, you will contribute to making the world a better place.

As for myself, I will continue to focus on my commitments of promoting human values, religious harmony, drawing attention to the ancient Indian wisdom which explains the workings of mind and emotions, and Tibetan culture and heritage, which has so much potential to contribute to the world through its emphasis on peace of mind and compassion.

I develop determination and courage in my daily life through the teachings of the Buddha and Indian masters such as Shantideva, whose following aspiration I strive to uphold.

As long as space endures,
As long as sentient being remain,
Until then, may I too remain
To dispel the miseries of the world.

Thank you for using the opportunity of my birthday to cultivate peace of mind and compassion.

Tashi Deleg and with prayers,

Dalai Lama

📿 The Evolving Art of Meditation (BLOG SERIES) — Vedic Roots (c. 1500 BCE)

Before apps, cushions, or even written language, there was sound.

Before yoga studios and Spotify playlists, seekers in ancient India would gather around the fire and repeat sacred syllables not just to calm the mind, but to touch the eternal.

✨ This is mantra: the original vibration meditation.

From the Vedas arose mantra like Om, So Hum, and Gayatri … living words said to hold divine resonance.

These weren’t affirmations - they were portals.

You can explore a simple mantra meditation RIGHT NOW:

Sit. Close your eyes.

Whisper silently (in your mind or out aloud) - “Om” softly, again and again.

Find and feel its pulse.

Settle into a gentle rhythm and notice the vibrational quality of the sound, like a lullaby, lulling your whole being into a sense of ease and calm.

I share one of my favourite Winter Daily Practices inside the Winter Retreat eMagazine, to ‘cuddle’ - FREE 🔗 in bio - and there are more daily mindfulness practices, guided meditations and seasonal treats in our 40-page winter edition.

When you cuddle/hug someone that you care about, or your pet, your body releases oxytocin, a natural hormone that calms and helps us manage stress better.

Reminded me of the Hugging Meditation by Thich Nhat Hanh, a masterful teacher who I have followed since I was a teenager!

From Teachings on Love, by Thich Nhat Hanh

“Hugging meditation is a practice I invented. In 1966, a woman poet took me to the Atlanta Airport and then asked, “Is it all right to hug a Buddhist monk?” In my country, we are not used to expressing ourselves that way, but I thought, “I am a Zen teacher. It should be no problem for me to do that.” So I said, “Why not?” and she hugged me. But I was quite stiff.

While on the plane, I decided that if I wanted to work with friends in the West, I would have to learn the culture of the West, so I invented hugging meditation.

Hugging meditation is a combination of East and West. According to the practice, you have to really hug the person you are hugging. You have to make him or her very real in your arms, not just for the sake of appearances, patting him on the back to pretend you are there, but breathing consciously and hugging with all your body, spirit, and heart.

Hugging meditation is a practice of mindfulness. “Breathing in, I know my dear one is in my arms, alive. Breathing out, she is so precious to me.”

If you breathe deeply like that, holding the person you love, the energy of care, love, and mindfulness will pe*****te into that person and she will be nourished and bloom like a flower.”

It was freezing today .. brrrr ⛄️

But it was also an easy choice to spend the day inside, get rugged up and - meditate!

I have a beautiful new meditation shawl from .meditationbox … so I was well cocooned and very comfortable.

A quick 10-minute meditation between work projects … drifted into a happy 30-minute deep dive with my personal mantra.

Do you meditate?

Catching up on a stack of meditation articles this week and two really jumped out - sitting at totally different ends of the meditation spectrum.

One dives into how Western mindfulness could benefit from reconnecting with its Buddhist roots. The other? Using AI to study how meditation affects the brain.

It’s really amazing to think about how ancient wisdom and future tech are both pointing us in the same direction. 🧘‍♀️🧠✨

I’ve been deep in research for a new blog series … one that traces the rich and winding history of meditation.

I recently found some old teaching materials from my years leading post-grad yoga programs, and it inspired me to revisit and expand and share this magical journey.

A story of how humans, across cultures and centuries, have always been seekers of stillness.

Seasonal Mindfulness: Winter’s Wisdom

The seasons are wise teachers, if we’re willing to listen.

In seasonal mindfulness, we tune our inner world to the natural rhythms of the outer … recognising that winter calls us to slow down, turn inward, and root deeply.

Just as trees conserve energy by sending their strength underground, this season invites us to do the same.

To rest. To reflect. To ground in our meditation practice, not only for peace in the present, but to grow deep roots of stability … the kind we’ll draw on when the wild winds of life come, and when spring calls us forward again.

This is the time to honour stillness as sacred, to see slowness as strength, and to let the quiet nourish what’s waiting to bloom.

My inbox has been showing a definite trend in media and news articles - around meditation and the benefits for the corporate workforce.

I also loved reading a recently released Australian 2025 workplace mental health report - I share the link.

Meditation is without doubt (and 30+ years of personal experience) the most effective tool that I have for managing stress - what about you?
