Light will win, a gathering of unity and remembrance.

The Australian Federal Government has declared a National Day of Mourning today, Thursday 22 January, a day for us to gather in unity and remembrance.

Join Amber Community in paying tribute to the 15 lives lost during the Bondi Beach terror attack, acknowledge the efforts of first responders who acted to prevent further tragedy, and the impact on the community.

Amber Community's Road Trauma Support Group provides a mix of peer support and education about trauma, coping strategies, and skills. The group offers a safe and supportive opportunity to explore trauma and post-traumatic growth and is facilitated by an experienced counsellor.

The program runs regularly throughout the year and is delivered online for 1.5 hours weekly for four consecutive weeks. The number of group members is capped to ensure optimal experience and outcomes.

“Joining the group has given me so much, especially the practical ways to cope, like better sleep habits and calming breathing exercises. Most importantly, it helped me realise I'm not alone on this journey.” – Road trauma support group participant.

Road trauma can bring a complex mix of grief and trauma, shaped by sudden loss, shock, and a sense of injustice that can deeply disrupt a person’s life. While these reactions are common and understandable, compassionate support and trauma-informed care can help people feel less alone as they navigate healing over time.

Recently, we had the privilege of filming powerful lived experience stories from our incredible volunteers. These stories sit at the heart of our education work, helping communities better understand the real impact of road trauma and creating space for connection, learning and empathy.

The filming day was filled with connection and peer support, and we are so grateful to the volunteers who shared their time and stories so openly. A special thank you to Karen & Mark for opening their home to us for filming.

We want to thank the Hume City Council. This project was supported by the Hume City Council’s Community Grants program, and we look forward to sharing these videos in the new year.
