Amber Community

Amber Community We are a not-for-profit organisation contributing to the safety and wellbeing of road users. Sessions may be conducted face-to-face, online or by telephone.

Amber Community was founded in 1994 by a small group of people whose lives had been directly impacted by road trauma. These people understood the need for a specialist service where support could be offered to those who, like them, were suffering because of the injury or loss of a loved one on the roads. They joined with professionals working in the area to provide counselling and support. From this humble beginning in 1994, Amber Community has grown to offer state-wide counselling, support and education services to individuals affected by a road incident. Counselling sessions are free of charge, confidential and unlimited in number for people affected by a collision on the roads (or involving any public transport), whenever this may have occurred. You do not need a referral to access our services. Our clients include bereaved families, friends and colleagues; injured people and carers; drivers and passengers; and people who were first on scene – witnesses, citizens who offered assistance, and emergency service workers. We are not a crisis service; our office hours are between 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday. If you need to speak to someone urgently, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14. Amber Community is committed to educating the community and raising public awareness about road trauma and how it affects people’s lives. We do this by positively influencing driver attitudes and behaviours with the aim of reducing crashes and the resulting trauma.

"The volunteer's story had a big impact on the other participants in the seminar and myself. I went in to reduce the severity of my fine and came out with a lot more! I share my experience with my friends and hope it makes a difference." - Education program participant.

Today, we heard from Belinda, one of our lived experience volunteer speakers, who spoke to the media as part of Victoria Police’s Easter road safety campaign.

She shared her story with such honesty, and it’s one that stays with you. A powerful reminder that road trauma doesn’t end at the scene. It changes lives, families and communities forever.

Thank you, Belinda, for your courage and for helping others understand why safer choices matter.

This Easter, please take care on the roads. Slow down, stay focused, and look out for one another.

This Easter, many of us will be travelling to spend time with the people who matter most.

For some families, that seat at the table is empty.

Every decision we make on the road matters, not just for us, but for everyone around us.

Slow down. Stay focused. Drive safely.

Drive safely this Easter 💛
