Amber Community

Amber Community We are a not-for-profit organisation contributing to the safety and wellbeing of road users. Sessions may be conducted face-to-face, online or by telephone.

Amber Community was founded in 1994 by a small group of people whose lives had been directly impacted by road trauma. These people understood the need for a specialist service where support could be offered to those who, like them, were suffering because of the injury or loss of a loved one on the roads. They joined with professionals working in the area to provide counselling and support. From this humble beginning in 1994, Amber Community has grown to offer state-wide counselling, support and education services to individuals affected by a road incident. Counselling sessions are free of charge, confidential and unlimited in number for people affected by a collision on the roads (or involving any public transport), whenever this may have occurred. You do not need a referral to access our services. Our clients include bereaved families, friends and colleagues; injured people and carers; drivers and passengers; and people who were first on scene – witnesses, citizens who offered assistance, and emergency service workers. We are not a crisis service; our office hours are between 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday. If you need to speak to someone urgently, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14. Amber Community is committed to educating the community and raising public awareness about road trauma and how it affects people’s lives. We do this by positively influencing driver attitudes and behaviours with the aim of reducing crashes and the resulting trauma.

Today, on Remembrance Day, we pause to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our nation, and those who continue to do so.

We also remember the families who carry their loved ones’ memory with pride and love.

If you're going to be out on the roads this Halloween, be extra cautious.

With little people out on the hunt for treats, they can easily become distracted and forget about road safety. So slow down, stay alert, and help everyone have a spook-tacular and safe night.

Damaging winds are forecast across Victoria this afternoon, with conditions expected to impact many regions.

If you need to travel, please take extra care:
Drive to the conditions and avoid travel if it’s unsafe
Watch for debris, fallen trees and powerlines
Pull over safely if visibility or conditions become dangerous

Every safe choice helps protect you and others on the road. 💛

Stay informed via the VicEmergency app or www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings

The Severe Weather Warning for Damaging and locally Destructive Winds forecast across all districts for today remains current.

Locations which may be affected include Horsham, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Shepparton, Seymour, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne, Wangaratta, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.

Be mindful of your safety throughout the day, particularly as we see strong winds pass through from early this afternoon:
