Brighter Pathways Therapy

Brighter Pathways Therapy Clinical Psychology Practice - offering therapy services to young people, parents and families. BUILDING BRIGHTER PATHWAYS TOGETHER.

Brighter Pathways Therapy is a well established psychology practice providing assessment and therapy services to the Blue Mountains and Central West community, as well as to other geographical areas via Telehealth. Brighter Pathways is a person centred clinic - approaching our clients needs with knowledge, collaboration, warmth and always without judgement. Our focus is working with and supporting young people and their families. Our skilled and enthusiastic team offers neuropsychological assessment, individual, family and group services. We also offer a range of adult assessment and interventions. In 2021, Brighter Pathways launched The Parenting Space. The PS provides an innovative range of online group parenting programs and groups. All parenting services are designed and delivered directly by Dr Rhodes in a non-judgemental and connected therapeutic space. Email us for more information on our services:

We wish everyone a safe holiday period and a wonderful break - full of nourishing moments. Our team is taking a break and will be back energised as ever on January 11th 2022.

We are looking forward to what 2022 will bring! For now, here’s a sneak peek of our new branding - as we’ve been quietly working behind the scenes to build an even better Brighter Pathways Therapy service for the Blue Mountains community.

Stay well and be kind to yourselves over this period. We look forward to Building Brighter Pathways Together in 2022. Warmest thoughts, Tracy and the BPT Team.

The holiday season is also a time of past reflection, mixed emotions and grief for many.

We remember our actions and thoughts matter. Showing kindness, warmth and compassion to those around us is powerful, and can have a lasting impact.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL GROUP SERIES: PART 1

TERM 1 2022: CONNECTION and REGULATION

Brighter Pathways Therapy is running separate youth (8-12 years), teen (13-17 years) and adult (18-25 and 25+) ‘Connect and Regulate’ groups starting Term 1 2022.

We take a warm and inclusive approach for all individuals. This group aims to support individuals at different developmental stages with connecting, understanding emotions, communicating needs and providing help with regulation when navigating practical demands and person requests.

Some elements this program looks at:

❤️ understanding myself - HealthyME! Initiative

❤️ social connection - for you, with you

❤️ understanding your own social needs

❤️ balancing social inclusion and me time

❤️ understanding emotions and building our awareness (learning emotions are not bad)

❤️ emotional regulation strategies (drawing on sensory needs, co-regulation and building our ‘need a moment’ tool boxes)

❤️ behavioural self regulation and body calmness

These innovative evidence based programs in our Social-Emotional Group Series have been developed by Dr Tracy Rhodes, Principal Clinical Psychologist, and the Brighter Pathways Psychology Team.

Each therapy component has been carefully developed drawing on inclusive and best practice approaches to understand and communicate our needs, grow our connection experiences, and build regulation strategies that support individuals in their daily experiences.

All groups are face to face run by our Psychology Team at our Blackheath Therapy Clinic. Brighter Pathways Therapy Clinic is a Covid Safe environment.

What a week it’s been! There have been mixed emotions for many of us - some that may have come as a surprise! All these feelings are completely normal and understandable, as we adjust to the easing of lock-down restrictions.

Remember to go slow, find some restorative moments over the weekend and be gentle with yourself and family.

Try and keep things simple... 🌻 what is one thing you can do, to be kind to yourself this weekend?

A gentle message from all of us at Brighter Pathways Therapy as NSW comes out of lockdown today...

❤️ It’s okay to look after yourself and family as we step out of lockdown and restrictions ease - feeling anxious, unsure and wobbly is normal and to be expected.

❤️ It’s okay to go slow and to set small steps or goals in returning things to the ‘new’ normal.

❤️ It’s also 100% okay to say ‘No, thanks’ if you don’t feel comfortable resuming activities straight away.

❤️ It’s okay to rest! Being in lockdown did not mean we’ve been resting all this time. For many it’s been the opposite. Acknowledge this and make space for some restorative rest periods.

See the tips below for different ways we can rest during this period.

🤔 What will you do this week to rest? Will it be physical, sensory or emotional rest you choose? Or all of them!

We will be navigating all of the above here at Brighter Pathways. We are still only offering Telehealth at this time. We will reach out to our clients and families directly regarding future updates. Big smiles, Brighter Pathways Team

Today is Are U OK? Day. We are thinking of everyone - we appreciate these are such difficult times.

Check in with those around you, connect online or call a support line if you are not OK. And if you don’t feel like talking, connect with your social, support or family network in any way that brings you comfort.

"Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh.

There was a pause.

"Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.

"No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do."

"That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend.

"What are you doing?" asked Pooh.

"Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either.

"But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh."

And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right."

So many of us have been handed down, or unknowingly allowed, or knowingly created a long, long list of worthiness prerequisites, a list of I’ll-be-worthy-whens. But here’s the truth of the matter: We are worthy of love and belonging now. Right this minute. As is.
