🛡️ Self-Advocacy is about having a voice — and being heard.

If you receive support under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), it’s important to know that you have rights. Understanding and using those rights can help you get support that meets YOUR needs, not just what someone else assumes you need.

Here are some practical self-advocacy tips for NDIS participants:

• ✅ Know your rights — You have the right to choose who supports you, how supports are delivered, and to say no if something doesn’t feel right.
• ❓ Ask questions — If something is unclear (your plan, supports, costs, service delivery), don’t hesitate to ask.
• 🔎 Request explanations when unsure — Understanding what you are entitled to helps avoid confusion or mistakes.
• 👥 Bring a support person to meetings — A trusted friend, family member, carer, or advocate can help when reviewing plans, discussing supports, or raising concerns.
• 📝 Keep notes of conversations — Document any agreements, service details, or issues discussed — this helps if you need to follow up, change services, or raise concerns later.
• 🗣️ Speak up if a service isn’t working — You can request changes, switch providers, or ask for a plan review if supports don’t meet your needs.

Empowerment begins with knowledge — and a willingness to use it.

💙 Under the NDIS, choice and control isn’t just a phrase, it’s a core principle that puts you at the centre of every decision.

With choice and control, participants decide:
✔️ Who provides their supports
✔️ How those supports are delivered
✔️ When sessions take place
✔️ What goals they want to work toward
✔️ Where they feel most comfortable receiving support

It’s your life, your goals, your plan.
The NDIS is designed to empower independence, build confidence, and ensure every person has a say in their own journey.

When you know your rights, you’re better equipped to shape the supports that fit your needs, not the other way around. 💙

♿ International Day of People with Disability – 3 December

Today we join communities across Australia and around the world in recognising International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) — a day dedicated to promoting understanding, acceptance, and meaningful inclusion.

This year’s message is simple but powerful: disability is part of human diversity, and every person deserves equal access, dignity, and the opportunity to live a full and empowered life.

As an NDIS provider, we’re proud to support people of all abilities by:

🔹 Delivering person-centred, culturally respectful care
🔹 Providing supports that promote independence and wellbeing
🔹 Ensuring participants have choice and control over their goals and services
🔹 Advocating for accessible and inclusive environments across NSW
🔹 Valuing the lived experience of people with disability in shaping better support

IDPwD is not just a day of awareness — it’s a reminder of the ongoing work we all share in building a community where everyone belongs.

Together, we can create a future that removes barriers, celebrates strengths, and supports every individual to thrive. 💙

✨ Did you know that sensory overload can lead to anxiety, shutdowns, or emotional overwhelm, especially for people with psychosocial or sensory-related disability?
A sensory safety plan is a simple but powerful tool that helps participants stay regulated, calm, and in control throughout the day.

Here are a few helpful items to include:
🎧 Noise-cancelling headphones to reduce overwhelming sounds
🧸 Comfort items like a weighted blanket or fidget tools
🕯️ Soothing scents to support relaxation
🪑 A designated quiet space for retreat and grounding
📋 A personal list of “When I feel overwhelmed, I can…” actions

These tools help create predictable, calming environments, supporting independence, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing.
Small strategies can make a big difference. 💙

🎉 Fun-Fact Friday!

Did you know the NDIS is built around three main support categories designed to help participants get the right mix of support for their goals and daily life?

📘 Here’s how they work:
🔹 Core Supports – These cover everyday needs like personal care, meal prep, transport, and community access. They offer the most flexibility in how you use your funding.
🔹 Capital Supports – This category funds big-ticket items such as assistive technology, mobility equipment, and home modifications to help participants live safely and independently.
🔹 Capacity Building – Supports skill development, confidence, independence, social participation, and long-term growth. This includes therapies, training, and learning new life skills.

Understanding these categories helps you make clearer decisions, get the most out of your plan, and feel more in control of your NDIS journey.

Empowerment starts with knowledge! 💙

🌿 Health & Wellbeing Day – 26 November

Today is Anti-Obesity Day, a reminder of how deeply connected our physical health and mental wellbeing truly are.

Research shows that regular movement, balanced nutrition, and healthy routines can improve not only physical health but also mood, energy levels, sleep quality, and emotional stability. This is especially important for people living with psychosocial disability, where small lifestyle changes can have a big impact on daily functioning.

Here are a few simple, achievable steps to support holistic wellbeing:
💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day
🚶 Take short walks or gentle movement breaks
🥗 Add one extra serving of fruit or vegetables
😌 Practice grounding or relaxation exercises
🕒 Maintain consistent sleep and wake times

At the heart of the NDIS is supporting participants to live healthier, more independent lives — physically, mentally, and emotionally. Every small action counts, and we’re here to help you build routines that work for you.

😌 Feeling overwhelmed or stressed? You’re not alone — and what you’re feeling is completely valid.
Stress can show up in many ways: racing thoughts, tension in the body, emotional fatigue, or simply feeling “off.”
When things start to feel heavy, grounding techniques can help bring your mind back to the present moment and give you a sense of calm and control.

Try this gentle grounding activity today:

👀 5 things you can see
✋ 4 things you can touch
👂 3 things you can hear
👃 2 things you can smell
👅 1 thing you can taste

This exercise is especially helpful for people living with psychosocial disabilities, anxiety, or moments of sensory overload. It encourages awareness, slows down the nervous system, and helps reconnect you with your surroundings.

Remember: managing stress doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, simple strategies like this can make a meaningful difference in your day. And if you or someone you support needs help, we’re here to walk beside you. 💛

🌿 “Kindness isn’t just an action — it’s a mindset we choose every day.”

This Motivational Monday, let’s carry the spirit of World Kindness Day forward.

Start your week with one intentional act of kindness — for a participant, a colleague, a loved one, or even yourself.

💛 Offer patience.
💛 Share a smile.
💛 Listen without rushing.
💛 Speak gently to yourself.

In disability and mental health support, these small acts make a huge difference. They build trust, connection, and confidence — and they remind us that compassion is powerful.

💬 What’s one kind thing you’ll choose to do this Monday?

🌍💛 November 13 is World Kindness Day!

Kindness isn’t just nice — it’s scientifically proven to make a difference in care and wellbeing.

🔬 Research shows:
• Performing acts of kindness can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and improves social connection more than other interventions.
• Kind behaviour is linked to improved mental and physical health (lower stress, lower blood pressure, stronger immune response).
• For people supported in disability/mental-health settings, kindness builds the trust and connection needed for effective support and inclusion.

🧩 In our role in care support:

• Use genuine, person-centred kindness — showing respect, listening, valuing difference.
• Recognise that small acts (a smile, a moment of patience, a supportive word) contribute to stronger relationships.
• Understand that by being kind we also support our own wellbeing (so we’re able to be more present, resilient and effective).

Let today (and every day) be a chance to invest in connection, inclusion and community.

🕊️ At 11am, we pause to remember.

Today, we honour those who served and those whose lives were forever changed by war.

For many, remembrance also means reflecting on the invisible wounds — the trauma, loss, and mental health challenges that can follow.

Let’s take this moment to show compassion, offer support, and acknowledge that healing takes many forms.

Lest we forget. ❤️
