Hug Day
International Hug Day is a gentle reminder of the comfort and connection a simple hug can bring. It’s a day to share warmth, lift spirits, and celebrate the power of kind, caring gestures that make people feel supported and appreciated. Happy Hug Day

Today I took my client to Ebenezer Uniting Church as part of our cultural program, which includes visits to historically and spiritually significant places of worship. Ebenezer Church, established in 1809, is recognised as the oldest existing church in Australia and played a pioneering role in the early settlement of the Hawkesbury region.
My client was deeply impressed by the serene and heritage-rich atmosphere of the church precinct. She enjoyed learning about the church’s remarkable history, including its origins with early settler families and its place as the first Presbyterian congregation in the colony before becoming part of the Uniting Church in Australia. She also admired the craftsmanship of the original furniture and architectural details, and found the peaceful setting overlooking the Hawkesbury River very moving.
The visit provided her with a meaningful glimpse into Australia’s colonial religious heritage and the enduring legacy of one of the nation’s earliest faith communities.

Deafness is NOT a tragedy.

A person with a BAHA, a cochlear implant, hearing aids, or no devices at all
is not someone to be pitied.
They are not “less than.”
They are not a sad story.

They are human
simply navigating the world in their own way.
And there is absolutely nothing tragic about that.

Deafness is NOT the tragedy.
The tragedy is how often society treats it like one.

Deafness isn’t the problem.
The attitudes around it are.
That’s what needs to change.

Let’s rewrite the narrative.
Let’s change the language.
Let’s change the lens.
