Optimal brain development depends on healthy play experiences in early life with play promoting synaptic connections and neuroplasticity during critical development periods (Panksepp,J.,2010)

This is exactly what these 'Gumnut Babies' are experiencing, what a gift we are providing!

I had some wonderful sessions at Blackwood Kindergarten this week as part of the Play Naturally OT Program. We noticed nature with our sense of smell and the children were so engaged in the playful way to connect with nature!

They are right in the flow and routine of 'Prue' coming which is helping them engage, notice, connect, learn and support their health and wellbeing, it is just wonderful to be part of their nature journey πŸ’šπŸŒΏ

Being out in nature with children is wonderfully unpredictable β€” and that's exactly why we love it.

But it's also why at Play Naturally OT I keep up to date with current first aid training. So at every session while you and the kids are busy playing, you can breathe easy knowing that if anything happens, we've got it covered.

Safe hands, wild hearts. 🌿

The right to play isn't optional. It isn't earned. And it doesn't require permission.

That was the powerful reminder as I attended this week's South Australian Play Summit, hosted by Play Australia β€” where practitioners, educators, advocates and policymakers gathered to shape a national plan for play.

Dr Naomi Lott's legal framework has stuck with me: children need space, time, and acceptance to exercise their rights β€” and a society that actively enables them. Without those things, rights are just words and we are then inhibiting the health and well-being of our children and ourselves.

Robyn Monro Miller AM led the day with her passion and humour, sharing insights from her Churchill Fellowship journey across 8 countries. The future of play in Australia feels a little more hopeful for it.

At Play Naturally OT, this is exactly why we do what we do. Nature play is a right, and we're proud to be part of the national conversation. 🌿
