Mushrooms 🍄 ❤️
The Fungi Kingdom is one of the most diverse groups of organisms in the world. Mushrooms like reishi, cordyceps, shiitake, and maitake offer a slew of health benefits with many key active compounds that research has linked to health benefits such as: beta-D-glucans, triterpenoids, and ergosterol.
Let's take a closer look at these fantastic fungi:
🌟 Cordyceps: Used for over 1500 years in Traditional Chinese medicine, and also known as the “Caterpillar Fungus” due to its ability to grow on certain insects, Cordyceps is an incredible fungus rich in polysaccharides and able to provide valuable support to the health of the immune system.
🌟 Maitake: Known as “Hen of the Woods” is an edible mushroom that grows at the base of oak and maple trees. It helps to support immune function by supporting the production of the immune system’s lymphocytes, natural killer cells, monocytes, and T-helper cells, making it a useful addition to treatment protocols for common colds and flu.
🌟 Shiitake: Rich in polysaccharides such as lentinans and beta-glucans, it was considered the “elixir of life” by Japanese elders as it shows strong antioxidant activity and immune system support. Shiitake mushrooms are great to cook with and are also loaded with B-vitamins and other goodies for a delicious and nutritious meal.
🌟 Reishi: Unique among the mushroom kingdom, it releases its spores via pores as it does not contain the traditional “gills” like other mushrooms. Revered in Traditional systems of medicine for over 2000 years and is often termed “the ancient mushroom of immortality” in Japan. Otherwise known as Lingzhi, Reishi when taken over time, can provide valuable support for the immune system as well as providing powerful antioxidant benefits.
