Just had your sports massage? Here’s how to make the most of it:

🧘‍♀️ Hydrate & Rest – Your muscles just had a workout. Drink plenty of water and let your body recover.

🚿 Warm Showers Over Ice Baths – Heat helps with circulation post-massage. Save the ice for injuries!

🚶‍♂️ Gentle Movement – Light walking keeps blood flowing and prevents stiffness.

🥗 Eat Well – Fuel your recovery with a nutrient-rich meal. Think protein, healthy fats, and greens.

😴 Sleep It Off – Deep recovery happens while you sleep. Don’t skimp on it!

See you soon for your next treatment!

In a recent study I have been reading on
The Trouble with Chairs. The science of being sedentary and how much it does (or doesn’t) affect your health and back pain I came across these benefits of exercise below. If this is not enough evidence to get you to move regularly I don’t know what will.

Next year I am doing a strength and conditioning course so I can help design strength and movement exercises for my clients and runners. If you are interested in a program designed to you let me know.

From the study -
It has been said that exercise is the closest thing there is to a miracle cure. “All the evidence suggests small amounts of regular exercise (five times a week for 30 minutes each time for adults) brings dramatic benefits,” we “age well” when we are active (Gopinath): less anxiety (Schuch), prevention of dementia (Smith) and a laundry list of other diseases (Pedersen), and as little as just 10 minutes per week might push back death itself (Zhao). It’s also superb medicine for most sleep disorders (Giannaki), which may explain many of its other benefits. Finally, although this remains relatively speculative, there are good reasons to think exercise is good anti-inflammatory medicine for musculoskeletal injuries, like muscle strains or Achilles tendinitis(more info).

In this small study, six sessions of massage significantly reduced both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while also enhancing sleep in women with hypertension. The findings suggest that massage therapy could be a useful adjunctive therapy in the management of hypertension and associated sleep disorders, particularly in settings where non-pharmacological options are valued.
