How Yoga Helped Sarah Reclaim Her Life After Burnout
(And Why It Might Help You, Too)
Just six months ago, Sarah, a 43-year-old teacher and mum of two, walked into our studio looking utterly depleted. She was running on empty—emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Like many, she’d pushed through back-to-back terms, juggling a demanding job, family life, and the never-ending mental load of modern life. She was suffering from adrenal fatigue, insomnia, and chronic tension in her neck and lower back. Her words: “I felt like I was disappearing.”
She told me she'd tried bootcamp...but instead of losing weight, she'd actually put on 4kg! She felt guilty and frustrated.
The turning point? A single deep dive "comprehensive health evaluation. A tongue diagnosis uncovered she was deeply depleted. I referred her to her GP for a full blood analysis and stool analysis (her tongue analysis indicated parasites).
Winter...it's the ideal time to take a look at your own health in order to get really clear about goals that will work with your body not against it.
I recommended a private mindful movement and yoga session.
She didn’t think it would “work.” She told me, “I’m not flexible, and I can’t sit still.” But she came anyway. We started with breath-led movement and restorative shapes designed to soothe her nervous system. By the end of the class, tears rolled gently down her cheeks — not from pain, but from finally feeling safe enough to let go.
Over the next few weeks, Sarah committed to one class a week. Within a month, she was sleeping better. Within three months, her back pain had eased, her periods came back, she was smiling again, and her family noticed the difference too. “I feel like myself again — but better, I think this has saved my marriage” she said recently.
Yoga didn’t just help Sarah stretch her body — it helped her stretch her capacity to live with more ease.
