Sunshine Coast Health has shared this story about funding support for a research project led by a dedicated, passionate healthcare improver. One of the founders of Snap Paediatrics - Dr Scott
🚨 Making EDs safer for kids 🚨
Congratulations to Paediatric Emergency Physician Dr Scott Schofield, whose ChildSAFE project has received an Emergency Medicine Foundation grant, with support from Clinical Excellence Queensland’s Healthcare Improvement Unit. 👏
ChildSAFE is working to co-design a digital child safety screening tool for Australian Emergency Departments, helping teams spot, document, and manage child safety concerns earlier, more effectively, and in ways that are culturally safe and clinically relevant.
“Managing child safety concerns in busy EDs can be challenging,” Dr Schofield says.
“With the right digital tools, we can better support clinicians – and protect children.”
The first phase is all about listening: gathering perspectives from clinicians, families, and diverse communities, including Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse groups. Because early detection can change lives.
✨ This project has been years in the making, and with EMF + HIU support, it’s set to make every ED visit a safer one for children.
