Most people don’t think twice about ongoing bloating, changes in bowel habits, or feeling unusually tired. Life gets busy, work piles up, and symptoms are easy to brush off.

But bowel cancer often starts with signs that people try to normalise.

This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, it’s a reminder that early conversations with your GP matter, especially when symptoms keep coming back or don’t feel right.

Screening and early detection can significantly improve outcomes.

If you’ve noticed ongoing digestive changes, abdominal discomfort, blood in the stool, or you have a family history of bowel cancer, don’t keep putting it off.

A simple appointment could reassure you or help detect concerns earlier.

Outside of work, Dr Eltokhy enjoys time with family and friends and spending time fishing.

He is available at Bomaderry Creek Health Centre every Tuesday to Friday and welcomes new patients.

You wake up at 2am… again.

Tired, but wired.
Your mind won’t switch off.

The next day, you feel exhausted but also anxious, irritable, and not quite yourself.

And you start to wonder…
“Is this just stress?”

For many women in their late 30s and 40s, this is where it begins.
Not always with hot flushes but with sleep changes, mood shifts, brain fog, and a sense that something just feels off.

It’s easy to brush it aside.
To blame work, life, or being busy.

But sometimes, there’s more to it.

Perimenopause can start earlier than expected, and symptoms can last for years before menopause is officially reached.

The important thing to know is, you don’t have to just push through.
Your GP can help assess what’s going on, discuss appropriate treatment options (including HRT where suitable), and support both your physical and mental wellbeing through this transition.

With the right support, many women start to feel more like themselves again.

If things haven’t felt quite right for a while, it’s worth having the conversation.

You’re still getting through the day.

Work. Family. Messages. Routines. Life as usual.

But lately, something feels different.
A bit heavier.
A bit harder to start the day.

Less energy, less motivation, even the things you usually enjoy don’t feel the same right now.

It’s easy to put it down to being tired or just the change in routine as the colder months set in.

But shifts in daylight, temperature, and daily rhythm can affect mood and energy more than many people realise.

And you don’t need to wait until things feel worse to reach out.

Feeling not quite yourself is already reason enough to talk to someone.

Sometimes, a simple conversation with your GP is the first step toward feeling more like yourself again.

A lot of people delay seeing a GP for one simple reason, cost.

They wait.
They put symptoms aside.
They hope things will settle on their own.
But small concerns don’t always stay small when they’re ignored.

That’s where bulk billing can make a real difference.

At Bomaderry Creek Health Centre, bulk billing helps make GP care more accessible — so it’s easier to book, follow up, and stay on top of your health.

From everyday concerns to ongoing care, having accessible healthcare means fewer delays, earlier support, and better peace of mind.

Because looking after your health shouldn’t feel like a financial decision every time.

After having a baby, everything changes at once, your body, your sleep, your identity, your routine.

And yet, you’re expected to “just cope.”

But for many women, the weeks after birth don’t feel like joy all the time.

They feel heavy. Disconnected. Overwhelming.
Sometimes it’s sadness. Sometimes it’s numbness. Irritability. Or feeling like you’re not bonding the way you thought you would.

Postnatal depression and anxiety affect around 1 in 5 new mothers in Australia, but many don’t speak up because they don’t think what they’re feeling “counts.”

It does.

These are not signs that something is wrong with you. These are signs you need support.

A GP can help you make sense of what you’re experiencing and connect you with the right care in a longer, supported appointment.

You don’t need the right words. You just need to start.

Many women know this feeling too well, walking into a clinic and having to explain everything all over again.

Your symptoms. Your history. Your concerns. From scratch.

But women’s health doesn’t stay the same. What you need at 25 isn’t what you need at 35, 45, or beyond.

From reproductive health concerns, postnatal recovery, returning to work, cycle changes, perimenopause, to menopause, each stage brings new questions and decisions that deserve context, not repetition.

That’s where continuity of care matters.

Having a GP who knows your history means fewer gaps, clearer decisions, and care that actually builds on what’s already been discussed, not restarted every visit.

We support women through every stage of life with ongoing, connected care.

So you don’t have to start over each time.
And you don’t have to navigate it alone.

You’ve probably heard it before:

“You’re just stressed.”
“Maybe it’s hormones.”
“It’s probably just age.”

But what if it’s something more specific?

Constant fatigue, brain fog, weight changes that don’t make sense, feeling cold, anxious, or not quite yourself, even after rest.

These symptoms are often brushed off, but for many women, they can be linked to thyroid conditions that are commonly missed.

Here’s what many don’t realise: it’s easy to check.

A simple blood test can assess thyroid function, and if needed, treatment can make a real difference.

If something feels off, it’s worth a conversation with your GP.

Some patients don’t say it out loud, but walking into a clinic can feel overwhelming.

Not just because of health concerns, but because of uncertainty, fear, and not knowing what to expect.

That’s why the small things matter.

A nurse who notices you’re not okay.
A calm voice that explains things clearly.
A team that doesn’t rush you through your care.

At Bomaderry Creek Health Centre, the nurses and care team do more than support treatment, they help patients feel safe, heard, and understood.

And that changes how people experience healthcare.

This International Nurses Day, we want to sincerely thank our care team for the way they show up every day for our community.

💛 To our nurses and healthcare team — thank you. You matter more than you know.

💛 If a nurse has made a difference in your life, drop a thank you below.

You know exactly when your kids are due for their next check-up.

But when it comes to your own health, it’s easy to put it off.

“I’ll book it next week.”
“Once things settle down.”

And somehow, it never quite happens.

Being a mum often means being the one everyone relies on, but it can also mean your own health slipping to the bottom of the list.

This Mother’s Day is just a gentle reminder:
your health matters too.

Whether it’s a check-up or a simple conversation with your GP, it’s okay to take that step.

Looking after yourself isn’t selfish, it’s part of staying well for the people who count on you.
