Imagine a team of horses running on dusty ground. As they run, they stir up the dust, hindering vision. But if the horses stop, the dust will eventually settle and everything will become clear again. 🐎
As is true for our ‘mind noise’. When the thoughts subside, we become quiet in the truest sense. And it is in this state that we get to access all the magic of our intuition and connect with our authenticity. We give ourselves the best opportunity to expand and grow into the space of love and non-judgement (of ourselves and others). And the ability to really hear the messages most meaningful to living our best life.

The reason to meditate. x

I love this one. Don’t live your life via others expressions of it. Let us always be working towards our most authentic self, the space of love, the place where we are motivated by, and living in, our own truth and essence. x

Someone once said to me, “Wipe your tears, no man wants an ugly woman!” This has not been the only time in my life that someone has attempted to attach shame to the act of my crying. And from delving into conversations with other beautiful souls, I know just how common this seems to be.

“Oh, don’t cry!” “It’s not that bad!” “Toughen up!” “Stop crying!” “You’re stronger than this!” “It’s not worth crying over!” “Men don’t like women who cry!”

Or the good of humankind, it’s time to remove the stigma associated with tears!

As conscious beings, we benefit from softening. From feeling. From opening ourselves and letting the emotions move through us. From releasing.

When we conceal our emotions, we harden. We disconnect from ourselves and also each other.

Tears are not so far from laughter. Sometimes tears come as a result of laughter. As of my most beloved teachers explains, “In both, happiness and sadness, our heart has been broken open.” How beautiful is that?!

Tears may come from a space of joy, empathy or sadness, but the commonality is connection, opening and softening. And what could be negative about that?

Sitting with this energy in meditation, moving with this energy in Asana, being with this energy during our interactions and experiences with others creates connection and harmony. So please, don’t apologise for your tears. x

I once overheard one of my Gurus speaking to another student, “Opinions are not Yoga!”

Opinions do not define reality. Not yours, not someone else’s.
Opinions do not define you. Not yours, not someone else’s.

Seek knowledge, not opinions. Work towards less judgement of others, less judgement of yourself.

Stay steadfast and true to yourself. Do not allow opinions, others or your own, to spiral you. It is our responsibility to show up for ourselves, for our authenticity. Observe, go inwards, utilise mantra, ground, reinforce the positive neural pathways. Opinions do not define reality. x

I’m not really sure when the expression of emotion got labelled as ‘weakness’... The very fact that we are immersed in a society, amongst work colleagues, family and friends, and of course ourselves who would rather repress feelings - causing more trauma - than be ‘vulnerable’ enough to authentically share what’s real, is a result of socially constructed bu****it.

Emotion = energy in motion. It is healthy to feel. It is healthy to cry. There are even times to roar! 🦁

By letting the energy flow through us, without labelling it good or bad is healthy and helps us process and transcend. Furthermore, when we allow ourselves to experience the emotion, we can become more compassionate beings with more empathy for others.

Do not accept being told to, “wipe your tears”. Do not be offended. Understand that if your strength to be vulnerable causes discomfort in another, it is simply about where they are at, not you. And find compassion for that too. x

Gratitude is not a list. It’s a state.

This is not to discount the beautiful ritual of gratitude journaling. On the contrary. Regular and mindful noting of what we are grateful for is a tool that helps rewire our brains in a positive way (stimulating more neurotransmitters - specifically dopamine and serotonin). The more you practise gratitude, the more you strengthen the brains neural circuits for gratitude, making it easier to focus on feelings of gratitude. BUT, gratitude doesn’t just belong in writing, on a page, in a book that you open and close at will. The STATE of gratitude is expressed in all moments, including the moments we are challenged the most. The moments we are tempted to fall back on negative thought patterns or habits of the lower mind. Gratitude is savouring. It is present-oriented and it is the antidote to negative emotions. x

Trust deeply in your evolution. You cannot be who you were yesterday. You will not be the same tomorrow.

It’s too easy to use this moment to wish for time back, to change something, to ease our guilt. To wish for something/s to be different. Don’t be tricked into these habits of our lower mind. Use this moment - just as you are - to tap into your truest nature. Believe in your authentic magnificence and navigate your evolution in a positive direction. Always remember that it is WHO we are that matters, not WHAT we are. These are not the same. x
