Men, your everyday habits matter more than you might think when it comes to fertility!

Research shows that simple lifestyle changes can significantly improve s***m quality in just 2-3 months. Here's what makes the biggest impact:

1. Temperature control - Keep things cool by avoiding hot spas, saunas, and tight underwear
2. Diet - Mediterranean-style eating with plenty of antioxidants supports s***m health
3. Exercise - Moderate activity improves s***m parameters (but excessive exercise can have the opposite effect)
4. Stress management - Chronic stress negatively impacts hormone balance
5. Sleep quality - Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep nightly

Making these changes isn't just good for fertility, they benefit your overall health too.

It's not "how old are you?"

It's "what does this mean for you?"

Career. Timing. A diagnosis that changed everything. The reason matters.

What I do know: the women who benefit most are those who act earlier than feels necessary.

Genetic carrier screening can identify whether a couple is at risk of passing on serious inherited conditions.

It's a conversation worth having before conception, not after.
Not to create anxiety. To create options.

Painful periods. Pain during in*******se.

Endometriosis affects around 1 in 9 women and is frequently underdiagnosed, sometimes by a decade or more. It can quietly impact fertility long before anyone investigates.

Pain is not something to push through. It's something to investigate.

For a lot of the couples I see, after a loss the answer was: wait and see.

Try again. It's common.

It is common. But common doesn't mean it shouldn't be investigated.

You don't have to keep losing pregnancies before someone takes it seriously.

Recurrent pregnancy loss affects around 1 in 50 couples. And for many of them, there is an identifiable cause. Genetic factors, uterine abnormalities, hormonal issues, clotting disorders.

These are things we can investigate. Things we can act on.

If you've had two or more losses, a thorough assessment isn't excessive. It's warranted.

What do you wish someone had told you earlier? 👇

Nobody wants to hear that age matters. But I'd rather have an honest conversation than let silence cost you time.

Here's what we know:
A woman is born with all the eggs she'll ever have. From her early 30s, egg quantity and quality begin to decline. That decline accelerates after 35.

For men, s***m quality also changes with age, though typically on a slower timeline.

This isn't meant to create panic. It's meant to create awareness.

Because one of the most common things I hear in my clinic is: "I wish someone had told me this sooner."

If you're in your late 20s or early 30s and not yet ready to conceive, it's still worth understanding where your fertility stands. Options like fertility testing and egg freezing exist precisely for this reason.

Information now means more choices later.

MYTH: "IVF is the only option if you can't conceive naturally." ❌

I understand why people think this. IVF gets most of the airtime.

But assisted reproduction is a whole toolkit, and what's right for you depends entirely on your situation.

✔️ IVF. Eggs fertilised in a lab, embryo transferred to the uterus. The most well-known pathway.
✔️ ICSI. A single s***m injected directly into an egg. Often the right choice when s***m parameters are a concern.
✔️ FET. Frozen embryos transferred in later, often more natural cycle.
✔️ IUI. S***m placed directly into the uterus around ovulation. Less invasive, and often the right starting point.

The best treatment isn't the most advanced one. It's the one that's right for you, at this point in your journey, with your specific results.

That's what a proper assessment is for.

"We've only been trying for 8 months. Is it too soon to come in?"

I get asked this more than almost anything else.

Here's the honest answer: it depends.

Under 35, 12 months of regular unprotected in*******se before we'd formally call it infertility. But that doesn't mean you have to wait.

Over 35, 6 months. Time is a genuine factor here and earlier investigation is always worthwhile.

Any age, if you have irregular cycles, painful periods, a history of STIs, previous surgery, or anything else that raises a flag?

Don't wait for a timeline. Come in now.

Seeking answers isn't giving up on natural conception. It's refusing to lose time to uncertainty.

Before we talk about IVF, I always want to talk about this:

The foundations matter. More than most people realise.

✅ A healthy weight. Nourishing your body and supporting your hormones.
✅ Regular moderate exercise. Not punishing, not extreme. Consistent.
✅ A diet built on real food. Vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, oily fish, plant proteins.
❌ Smoking. Infertility rates in smokers are roughly double those of non-smokers. Both partners.
❌ Alcohol. There's no "safe" amount when you're optimising for conception.
I'm not saying this to make anyone feel guilty. I'm saying it because you can actually do something today that matters.

Sometimes, that’s the most empowering place to start.

1 in 6 Australian couples will experience infertility.

That's not rare. That's your street. Your office. Your friendship group.

And yet when it happens to you, it can feel profoundly isolating. Like everyone else is falling pregnant effortlessly and you're the exception.

You're not.

What I wish more people knew before they started trying: infertility isn't a personal failing. It's a medical reality - and one with answers, options, and pathways forward.

If you're in that 1 in 6 - or you're worried you might be - you're welcome here. Contact us to discuss more
