Research has consistently shown that tummy time is critical for a baby’s physical and cognitive development.
🧩 According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), tummy time helps to strengthen the muscles in a baby’s neck, shoulders, and back, which are essential for reaching developmental milestones like rolling over, sitting up, and crawling. Studies have also highlighted that babies who spend more time on their tummy tend to develop better motor skills and coordination.
🧩 Additionally, research published in the Journal of Pediatric Physical Therapy suggests that tummy time can help prevent positional plagiocephaly, or flat head syndrome, by reducing pressure on the back of the head.
🧩 Tummy time promotes sensory development, encouraging babies to explore their environment in a way that supports brain development. With early and consistent tummy time, babies develop essential skills that lay the foundation for later movement and cognitive abilities, making it a key part of healthy early childhood development.
