CAMP RESET: ACT ‘25’ 🌳
Where the values & framework are a compass for every camp; the people, place & time create moments that are unique to that singular experience.

This camp brought about moments of deepened connection to how in the edge of risk there lies opportunities for empowerment & accountability.

Witnessing arriving moments of self reflection, modulating one’s own journey & meeting in a place of connection with acceptance of differences.

Grateful to the families who trust us, children who open up to us, leaders who give so much & the property owners who believe in our cause.

Send us a message if you want to know more about joining us on our next camp.

DUNE SURFING 🏄
One of our favourite things to do on Camp Reset: Summer is spend the afternoon surfing the dune’s!

Think shady tree, speedy zoom down the dune, engaging muscle activation journey back up. Fun & function!

When all are exhausted we witness the shift into creativity where games & stories emerge & the exploration pivots.

Integration of body, mind & spirit!

Count down is on for 2024 summer camp…5 days to go!

REORIENTATION 🌈
Like feeling the warmth of the sun as it appears from behind the clouds following a storm, the act of reorientation is vital in balancing our physiological states.

We need our protective stress state for survival when threat is detected, such as recent events. We become more alert, more vigilant, more reactive, more analytical, more fast paced. This state serves us in periods of need. When this state is however prolonged, without balance in reorienting in periods of safety, our systems become loaded.

This can appear in with reactions including:
- difficulty with sleep/wake cycles
- frustration
- poor attention
- impulsivity
- increased startle
- reduced motivation to do or go
- increased emotion
- withdrawal
- shifts in heart & breath rate
- increased sensory sensitivity

Supporting our systems: self & community it is vital in moments of safety that we reorient to the cues of such safety. Pausing the reaction & extending the experiences to tune in, guiding us back to responding from a place of safety, security & connection.

Reorienting is an act to feel & notice the sensory & physical world around & within. We can do this through:
- watching the sunrise & sunset
- feeling the ocean on our feet or diving in
- meditating
- yoga flow
- engaging in a loved sport
- journaling
- following a recipe & cooking
- snuggling under a blanket together & sharing stories
- playing music & singing together

As a trauma-responsive service we are here alongside you to guide & support in times of need. If the recent Bondi Junction events have impacted you or those you know, reach out & we will make space to guide during these times. So too if reading this post triggers an awareness of a stuck state & intent to reorient.

ACTIVE OT & CAMP RESET STATEMENT:

In light of the recent media exposure regarding service that abused the human rights of the children who were meant to be in their supportive care, we felt it was needed to make a statement.

Firstly we do not support such actions or services, what they have done is abuse.

Secondly our services do not align with any such service or approach.

It is awful to read & become aware of programs across USA which have abused children & the role they are supposed to play in healing. This is not ok & breaks our heart to hear.

We can appreciate how this leads to fear in communities & carers with regards to trusting services. Be aware these services take children against their will at night & advocate for harsh discipline, going against trauma-responsive care. Trauma-responsive care is relationship based, focuses on connection & nurturing, values seeing, hearing & respecting individuals, sees behaviours as responses to understand & respects that individuals & families must be active in choosing to engage in the steps involved in the services including attending.

We certainly not only connect with the parents / cares we also meet with the child & share with them prior to the camp so that they feel aware of, connect with us & have the opportunity to ask questions & make an informed choice as to whether they want to join us on camp.

As an allied health practice & providers in Australia, we are not allowed to under our registration regulations, share testimonials (in case they are falsified). Where we can understand why there is this regulations it can also make it challenging for services & the community alike to gain trust & security in the services. We can outline:
- we hold full AHPRA clinical registration
- we have over 15 years of clinical experience
- we have written chapters & contributed to nature therapy books globally
- we continue to present workshops globally across leading childhood trauma conferences
- we mentor clinicians globally on trauma-responsive care
- we have children ourselves & practice what we share clinically & professionally share the same care we do for our own children
- we continue to witness & receive life changing positive feedback from children & their carers who have & continue to attend camps & our services.

We do have a video of children on a camp which are honest snapshots of the joy shared.

I hope this helps build faith in our services.

The healing opportunities of quality & caring nature-based services are integral in supporting children presenting with trauma.

We continue to provide trauma-responsive, quality & caring nature based service to children & communities in need.

Love, compassion & sincerity.
