When the bay is calm, every ripple finds its rhythm.

That’s what acupuncture feels like for your body: gentle, steady, and deeply grounding. Instead of crashing waves of stress and tension, your system moves into a quiet, peaceful tide.

Like still water reflecting the sky, acupuncture helps your nervous system settle so your mind can clear, your breath can deepen, and your body can finally exhale.

From stormy to serene, one session at a time.

New blog is live

Melatonin isn’t just about sleep anymore. Emerging research suggests it may also play a role in fertility health, especially when combined with supportive approaches like acupuncture.

If you’re on a fertility journey, this could be a helpful topic to explore.

Want help with stress, anxiety and insomnia relief?

Help is at hand!

This Rest and Relax roll on combining Chamomile, Lavender and Marjoram helps to support the nervous system by calming the body, relieving anxiety and stress.

This brings the body back to a Parasympathetic Nervous System state of “rest and digest”.

This roll on is compact and light, and can be rolled onto your temples, back of the neck and shoulders (especially if the muscles are tight) or inhale straight from the bottle.

A great self care treatment pre bedtime routine for some added Zen.

If you find that your mind is still racing even after a long swim, or if your sleep is shallow and your shoulders remain hiked toward your ears, your nervous system may be stuck in a "sympathetic loop". This is the fight-or-flight response staying active long after the "threat" has passed. While movement helps manage the symptoms of stress, it doesn't always reach the dial to turn it off.

Acupuncture is designed to meet you in that deeper space. By gently communicating with the nervous system, it encourages the body to shift from "doing" to "being." It’s a quiet, internal reset that helps your heart rate variability improve and your parasympathetic system (the "rest and digest" mode) take the lead again.

It is the stillness that complements your strength.

If you feel like you’re doing the work but your body isn't quite letting go, I’d love to help you find that deeper sense of ease.

A new lunar year represents renewal. A time to reset, realign, and welcome fresh energy.

In Chinese Medicine, we honour cycles. Growth follows rest. Movement follows intention. And each new season offers an opportunity to restore balance.

If we haven’t met, I’m Dr. Houng Lau, founder of Eastern Therapies clinic here in Bondi. As a medical doctor and practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, I take an integrative approach to health, combining evidence-informed practice with the depth of traditional medicine.

I’m deeply committed to ongoing learning and continually expanding my knowledge, bringing a broad range of experience into the care I offer my patients. My goal is simple: thoughtful, personalized treatment that addresses the root cause, not just symptoms.

If this new year feels like your moment for a reset, I’d love to support you.

What the Year of the Horse Means
The Year of the Horse is not subtle.
It’s momentum.
It’s movement.
It’s visible fire energy.

In the Chinese zodiac, the Horse represents:
• Independence
• Charisma
• Speed & progress
• Action over hesitation
• Strong yang energy

Horse years often feel fast. Things move quickly. Decisions accelerate. Opportunities appear — but so do tests of patience.
The lesson?
Channel the energy.
Don’t scatter it.

Think of it like riding a powerful horse:
If you direct it, you advance rapidly.
If you lose focus, it runs wild.

This is a year for:
• Expansion
• Visibility
• Leadership
• Strategic action

Move with intention — not impulse.

Are you ready to ride this year with clarity?
Comment 🐴 if you’re stepping into momentum.

For sciatica, we often combine acupuncture with laser therapy to support the body on multiple levels.

Laser therapy may assist with:
• Calming irritated tissue
• Easing muscle tension
• Supporting circulation
• Reducing oxidative stress

It’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing the right things in the right order.

What You Can Do at Home for Sciatica 🔥

Decompress the nerve (gentle mobility)
• Supine knee-to-chest stretch
• Piriformis stretch
• Cat-cow spinal mobility
Move slowly. Never force into sharp pain.

Reduce irritation
• Heat for muscular tightness (10–15 mins)
• Ice during sharp inflammatory flare-ups
• Short, frequent walks (avoid prolonged sitting >30–40 mins)

Release tension
• Tennis ball under glute against the wall
• Gentle hamstring mobility
• Avoid deep forward bending + twisting in acute phase

Support internal balance
• Prioritise sleep
• Hydrate well
• Reduce inflammatory foods
• Avoid alcohol until symptoms settle

The Chinese Medicine Perspective
In Chinese medicine, sciatica commonly follows the pathway of the Gall Bladder meridian, which runs from the hip down the outer leg — closely mirroring many sciatic pain patterns.
The Liver and Gall Bladder are paired organs in this system.
When the Liver is under strain (stress, stagnation, excess heat/inflammation), it may contribute to tension and irritation along the Gall Bladder channel.
Alcohol is considered heating and can aggravate Liver imbalance.
In some cases, this may intensify inflammation patterns and worsen sciatic discomfort.
So while you’re recovering, removing alcohol can support a smoother healing process.

Why is it called the Million Dollar Lower Back Treatment?

Because it’s so effective, you could make a million bucks off it.

When someone says, “I wanted this sorted quickly,”
and those tender points stop reacting — that’s not luck.
That’s precision.

This approach is taught through the Balance Method acupuncture system and works beyond where the pain is felt.

Lower back pain is often not local.
It’s frequently driven by nerve pathways and dermatomes elsewhere in the body — areas quietly feeding tension into the lower back.

By assessing these dermatomes and addressing the underlying neurological drivers, this style of acupuncture is commonly used to support:
✔️Persistent lower back pain
✔️Acute lower back pain
✔️Restricted or guarded movement
✔️Ongoing muscular tension

A smarter strategy starts with understanding the signal — not just chasing the symptom.
