World Embryology Day & World IVF Day
Today we celebrate a field that has quietly transformed lives in the most extraordinary way.
Behind every embryo transfer, every positive test, every little heartbeat — there’s a team of incredibly dedicated embryologists working behind the scenes with care, precision and unwavering focus. Their work is both deeply technical and deeply human. It’s about science, yes — but it’s also about hope.
Since the world’s first IVF baby, Louise Brown, was born in 1978 thanks to the pioneering work of Robert Edwards and Patrick Steptoe, we’ve come a long way. That single breakthrough opened the door for millions of families who once had no options.
Embryologists are essential partners in every fertility journey — nurturing embryos, improving lab techniques, innovating, and helping us all better understand what’s possible. They are also powerful advocates for openness and education, helping to reduce the stigma around infertility and start conversations that matter.
At Monash IVF, we are fortunate to work with some of the most brilliant scientists in the field — always striving for better outcomes, greater precision, and more possibilities for the people we care for.
Today, I want to honour the embryologists, IVF scientists and fertility specialists who make all of this possible — and the patients who put their trust in us every day. Because some of the most extraordinary miracles happen in a quiet room, under a microscope, before they’re ever seen on a scan.
